Police application assistance please

Tell her not to do it....
It will soon be a job as opposed to a career. People will join, do a few years and leave. If that suits her, then fine. Many forces are taking applications from internally so her best chance is probably to join as a Special, a volunteer cop. This way she also gets a chance to see whether its for her or not without jacking in her current job.

Which force?
Any other policing experience?
If none, expect to be a special for a couple of years.
Self funded training is the latest great idea.
Whilst conditions have changed immeasurably, it is still a fantastic job and incredibly rewarding. (As long as you don't read RH's posts!)
PM if you want, I've sat on selection boards etc.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick responses.
North Wales police are recruiting shortly, possibly a slightly different process to other forces due to the Welsh language element. Fortunately she is fluent in Welsh as a 2nd language.
No previous experience in policing but has run her own business for the last 4 years .
It may come across as corny but she wants to make a difference, she has been involved in training for a number of years but sees the Police as a more fulfilling role than becoming a lecturer in the hair & beauty field.
She's aware of the role and what it potentially entails
Bit of background she's been keen on a career in the police since childhood and her Dad was in RNLI for most of her youth so well used to emergency situations.
She's 27 by the way.

Well, at least make sure she knows what she is letting herself in for.The police service is undergoing a period of unprecedented change - it is not the job it once was. Check out the Winsor "reforms" and make sure you understand what is happening.
Best advice - make sure your eyes are wide open.
Most forces now only recruit "internally" - from police staff (civilian employees) or Special Constables
Tell her to join the Civil Nuclear Constabulary.
Much less stress, better conditions of service (although you can be moved anywhere in the country), similar pay - she'll have to carry though - all are AFO's. (authorised firearms officers).
More of a security role - guarding nuclear sites - but given my time over I'd have joined them instead.
I believe they are recruiting. Wylfa (Anglesea) is probably the nearest site to you.

She won't be 'making a difference'. She'll be Fire Brigade Policing, running from one job to the next, no breaks, dealing with the same feral underclass every day, spending 80% of her time trying to sort the country's mental health problems (while 'dedicated' agencies say it's nothing to do with them), listen to Politicians tell you you're overpaid and then when you try to relax read on the Internet crap spouted by clueless 'experts '. The hours destroy your family life. Holidays can (and will) be cancelled at the drop of a hat, as will rest days.
The Police have been decimated and there's more to come. Please tell her to look elsewhere. It is NOT a career that any serving Officer would now recommend.

I've been in for five years, and wouldn't join if I knew then what I know now. If anyone will pay me £30k a year, I will be leaving. It's that simple. Crap shifts, no management support, restricted private life (I have to ask our PSD for permission to rent my old house to my sister, for Christ's sake) and the general role ( I spend more time dealing with 'Facebook' type incidents involving idiots than I do on pro-active patrol.
If anyone wants to employ a bitter, cynical cop in the East Midlands / East Anglia area, PM me. I can operate a Taser and drive fast if it helps!

Thank you so much so much for the feedback so far, forms are printing as I type. Really appreciate the frankness and honesty in so many replies. We are both eyes open to how the role will be.
On a personal level I'm shocked by how bad things appear to have got for current serving officers.

Just in case you missed my earlier post; don't do it.
Morale going through the floor. No more goodwill. Increased ignoring of regulations by SMT. Police Federation even more emasculated than the toothless tiger it used to be. Being expected to do more, with less, for less, with PSD ready to jump all over you for even an honest mistake.
Days spent dealing with the socially inept and inadequate who can't exist outside Facebook. Ignoring decent hardworking citizens while you arrest people who are rarely punished adequately by the Courts, if the CRiwn Prosecution Service will even authorise charges.
Forensic submissions refused on costs grounds while the chief officer team get new Jaguars, Audis and BMWs every 3 years...
Restrictions on where you can live, who you can live with and what you can do outside work. Criticism or whistle blowing may well lead to you being arrested and prosecuted with a seal rarely seen meted out to actual criminals.
Training in actual law and procedure now takes second place to diversity or the latest big idea from someone seeking promotion.
Starting pay cut to less than that if a Barista in the House of Commons...
Want me to keep going?

OP, if you think it's anything like TV (reality shows included) you are very much mistaken.
And all the time you'll hear lying, treacherous Politicians say 'the frontline isn't affected'. It's utter bulls
t. If the British public were truly aware of what is going on courtesy of May and Cameron (and what else they have planned), they simply wouldn't believe or accept it.
Honestly, tell her NOT to do it. There is no future in the role.
I don't know if you have kids, but if so you will have to drastically change your lifestyle. I've had 2 Christmas dinners at home in 20 years. I've missed 90% of parents evenings and birthdays. When all your friends are arranging a get together on the weekend, it's most likely you won't be able to go because you're working. It's something that can cause real issues in relationships after a while.
