991 owner write ups / reviews on ph and elsewhere
Discussion
I have recently acquired a 991 s for use in europe .
Its bloody brilliant , completely changed my mind about this car . I love it , it does absolutely everything brilliantly .
Ive read all the magazine reviews but am very interested in proper OWNERS write ups , here and on other forums .
Any links will be greatly appreciated .
Ill be doing my own write up next week ( have a small road trip planned ) and it would be great to have an idea of actual owners opinions , especially living with the cars and different specs and opinions thereof .
Thanks in advance

Not strictly an owners review but Ronan (RDMcG on here) wrote a good review following a prolonged test from the viewpoint of a 997 RS owning potential owner:Its bloody brilliant , completely changed my mind about this car . I love it , it does absolutely everything brilliantly .

I don't think his main vocation is motoring journalist although I may be wrong...
It's very well written.
evening all, i have been running my 991 S for almost a year now, have covered 12k in it. i collected the car in zuffenhausen last year and drove it back in german delivery plates, though it is a full UK spec car. 12k miles in to it i have had a few niggles - seat creaking under load (!) fuel filler lock failed tracker proble. other than that, nothing of note.
i specced the PCCB with PDCC with PDK, Sport Chrono, sunroof, bose upgrade, extra leather and bits and bobs. it was not cheap..
i love it. with sport on it is a monster, i think more agile than the 997 C2S it replaced. The driver environment is super, comfortable and it is a refined GT car when you need it to be. The Nav, Phone, Ipod etc so much better.
it sits alongside my '97 NSX, '91 F40 and a '63 e-type. it is the perfect compliment to that group, which i think is the best thing i could possibly say.
what i do find unbearably bad is the service and general assistance of porsche dealers, it is getting worse and worse. they are completely rubbish.
the difference between the enthusiasm of the factory team, their knowledge and willingness to help in the delivery process was a complete change from the usual grunts and groans of my local dealer.

We have a standard Carrera cab, and the chassis is finally strong enough to make the difference between Coupe and Cabriolet almost negligible. Compared to the S, the Carrera has less low down torque but the top end is almost better, and it makes a better sound than the S (!). It's very high pitched, and sounds more exotic to these ears. Absolutely no need for the PSE. It's my wifes car, so she isn't concerned about the power, but I would have probably chosen the S as it feels stronger lower down. Quite a hard choice though as both have benefits.
The PDK box which I was expecting to hate is pretty amazing, stick it in Sport and Auto and it's great to just potter around in but still be pretty sporty, move it to Sport + and go manual and the changes are brutal and it feels every inch the junior supercar. Grip is sensational.
Just ignore the reviews, go and actually drive one, and I think just about every normal human would be impressed with it. The steering is also totally fine compared to other cars, it's less 911 like but I never liked the light front end feel to the steering anyway, just my opinon. Plenty of cars to chose from if you don't want the latest tech/spec.
Oh and my eyes this is one drop dead gorgeous car, especially in black. Looks superb from every angle in the flesh.

How strange, same here! Fuel flap solenoid failed on mine too. Also creaky seat thing (good to know that it's the buckle and can easily be fixed). Car went in when I first got it for creaky sunroof. Man it was like there were loose ball bearings in it, was amazed it was delivered in this condition.Apart from that over the moon with the car but these niggles do grate on a £100k car.
Well I'm onto my 2nd 991S and its probably the best all round car I've ever had.
The first was an early production car which never felt well put together and had been recalled 3 times. The second though has the same solidity of the other (996/997) 911's I've owned
Its my first PDK Porsche and I must say it really suits the car. The engine begs to be revved and sounds brilliant with the sports exhaust. The sheer pace on the roads where I live (in the Peak District) is mind blowing, its by far the best handling road car I've driven. Front end grip is amazing. The ride in particular is superb, enabling me to go faster with more confidence than the RS's I've owed (not surprising I suppose)
I can't wait to try the new GT3 to see if its more suitable than the previous iterations on the give & take roads I'm used to
Overall its far better than the reports I'd read...though the silver lining has been the discounts on offer!

I am onto my second 991S as well. Like you it's because my first one was one of the first cars in the UK and was badly put together. The new one is a different quality of car.The first was an early production car which never felt well put together and had been recalled 3 times. Mine is a quite spec heavy 3.8 PDK with PDCC. It is a total weapon on fast, bendy B roads. On motorways it's well-mannered and comfortable.
PDCC seems to be very sensitive to tyre pressures and I have had to keep them fairly high to get best results. Also PDCC takes some getting used to, but once you're used to it you don't want to go back to standard suspension.
I have no major gripes about the car. The only minor fault it has after 6k miles is the driver's seat back creaks a little by my left shoulder. I would also be happier if the car had DAB radio, which I note Porsche is now offering.
The PDK 'box is a thing of beauty and the speed of gear shifts is astounding.
I am quite pleased that the 911 has moved up in the range with more refinement. When I had a 997 I wanted a bit more refinement and now I have it. I have seen nothing else in the market at any price that I would trade for the 991.

Hi you share my garage at Silverstone some times I have the orange 12c, I brought at 991s in nov for a 3 month work horse, now done 7k miles, could just be the best car pound for pound, I have ever owned, faster than my 4.0 RS, drove the 918 last week………epic
Regards
Hi Apolo, I am saving up my money for a 12C, should i stop ? are you saying the 991 is the better car?Regards

GuillauneB, i agree. very bad for a 100k car... hope your dealer is better than mine!
also heard today that recall is for PDK reprogramming that changes some shift dynamics..
Haven't heard anything about the PDK update yet...also heard today that recall is for PDK reprogramming that changes some shift dynamics..
Can you believe it I appear to be having problems with my tracker now? Booked in...

Bored of your turbo or just feel like something different?@ OP: I had some serious issues with my 991 C2, I live around serious twisty welsh mountain roads and it didn't feel right to me at all, it was far too edgy. In general it didn't feel as though the esp/tc/steering were configured correctly. I believe EVO had a similar issue with a C2 they tested around launch time. I moved it on locally at a slight profit before I bothered taking it the three hours to the nearest OPC for them to take a look.
I've been waiting for the 991 Turbo/S, but I'm not blown away by the styling or value relative to 12C especially. At a bit of a loss what to do next.

Am under the impression that the Mp4 Spyder would be an upgrade over a 991 or Turbo. Ever since Catchpole posted that Evo video of the Mp4 coupe being thrashed in the mountains I have been single minded about getting into one.

After 3 terrific years I traded my 997 Turbo S for a 991C2S, and I really rate the new car as pretty damn good.
As the driver you tend to spend more time looking at the inside than the outside and in my view the new interior has advanced a whole level from the 997, which in itself was a significant improvement on the 996. The driver information dial is novel ( albeit similar to Mrs lowndes Boxster S) and I would like to be able to change the order in which it cycles so that the ones I am most interested in are next to each other. Maybe that is possible; must read the manual some day.
Still only at 1k miles and taking it easy with the revs but even so find it very responsive and eager. PDK helps of course and the latest iteration is completely seamless and intuitive. Although mine has the PSE, I actually prefer the engine note with it switched off. To me it is redolent of a powerful single engine radial aero engine with that wonderful deep bass growl.
Electric steering. Really ? I never noticed! It is very accurate, nicely weighted and allows you to put the car exactly where you want. And although I had not intended it for such use, it would be pretty handy on the track I think.
The only thing I really miss from the turbo S is the massive thrust for overtaking and with that in mind I have paid my £10k and joined the queue. But if it takes a year or two to come through I won’t be too bothered.
Like an earlier poster I too have an NSX, it's a 3.2 manual, and highly regarded though that car is, it is salutary and speaks volumes for the 991 that it leaves the Honda feeling dated and far behind.
