As above, I have a Passat W8 tiptronic saloon with approx 60k miles in fantastic condition - probably one of the best condition W8's about.
Its not being used as I am currently living in Australia, how much is it worth? I have no idea what to sell it for.
It has an MOT until August, last one no advisories with exception of tyre needs replacing- will do this before I sell. Wheels will need a refurb (usual Madras issue). I think it has a FSH too but would need to check the paperwork, seems to ring a bell though
Some shoddy photo's attached but its all I have on me

There are three on ebay at the moment, all 2002 cars with between 70,000 & 100,000 or so miles.
They're priced between £6,000 (dealer car around Heathrow) and £4,000 (private sale).
I'd have thought the market for these cars is quite small though.
I think mine has about 57k miles and runs beautifully. 5k was the figure that popped into my head and what you say seems to match up. Most people have no idea what it is- I have been stopped by numerous Passat owners wanting to know about it so I guess it will be a case of putting it up and see what happens. That's a decent premium for the engine, non-W8 Passats of the same vintage would be a hell of a lot less than that. I picked up a reasonable condition 110k '52 reg 1.9 Estate for £1600 last year.
One of those was only about 25k new- the w8 was almost double that. It's not just the engine, its fully loaded. W8 engine, 911 gearbox, rs4 brakes amazing interior, solar panels in sun roof, . Mine even has a fridge in the glove box. Also not many diesels will hit 180mph. Think of it more as an alternative to an m5/ rs4- like continually stated- only those in the know will appreciate it. james280779 said:

Not really.all three are 8 cylinder German cars. Hardly chalk and cheese. Admittedly the w8 is not as hardcore but its a far more comfortable alternative for those in the market for a German machine. Don't fooled by the paper figures, it's slow to pull away but once moving its a very quick machine. Easily as fast as my esprit turbo, 911 and TVR. Come winter time nothing will touch it in the snow- it's phenomenal Two are proper sports saloons, one is a waft mobile capable of high speeds, two totally different types of car

OP - good luck with the sale. Despite my reservations 10 years ago I kind of wish I'd bought it.
The same cars loop around on ebay till the sellers get bored and give up. There's very few about and the ones being sold often have torque converter/engine management issues which will cost as much as the asking price to sort, potentially.
Most aren't that well spec'd either - with the optional Recaros, power seat adjustment, heated rear seats, sat nav/tv, multi function steering wheel, then it would be considered loaded. Estates are worth more as they are at least more practical. Manuals are very rare and for some are a more desirable option as they don't suffer the auto box problems.
If it owes you nothing, keep it. Bare in mind if you want a bargain barge you can buy an Audi A8 4.2 which cost 70k plus with options for less than 2 grand and a decent low miles one for under 4k

Yeah, it was more of an S4 equivalent, not RS4, and although it had similar power to the B5 S4, it was quite a bit heavier, which made it slower and thirstier. Back in September 2003 I looked at a '51' plate W8 estate which was being sold by VW Aberdeen. They had it priced at £21K, but it was obvious they wanted to shift it as they offered me a "drive it away today" deal of £17.5K. The depreciation on them must have been horrendous. In the end I went for a 3.0 V6 A6 quattro.

I forgot to mention that mine has been remapped so it unleashes some of the engine potential- also got rid of the silly 1st gear limiter which makes a big difference. Its definately thirstier than most similar cars. It does however have an amazing sound like no other which is its biggest pro. Sounds more like a high strung Ferrari than a family mover. Its definately a car lovers car. I am in no rush to sell but I have seven cars and can only drive one at a time. Thinking about selling 3/4 and getting a manual DB9.
Have you had the gearbox oil and filter changed? VAG claimed their auto boxes of the time were 'sealed for life' which as a manufacturing engineer by training sounds like the most moronic statement you can imagine!
At that mileage if it hasn't been done it'd be well worth it, then get it done every few years irrespective of mileage covered. With removal of the torque limiter on first you'll be putting extra strain on the torque converter which is the weak link in that box in terms of coping with the power output.
My S8 (same box) had its oil and filter changed at about 40k miles IIRC and the smoothness and speed of changes (including going from D to R or back) was very noticably improved.

I will have to check the paperwork when I get back, It pulls very smoothly but its something to bear in mind. Fuel isnt as bad if you use the tiptronic, I averaged about 25mpg over the winter in snow/ rain. However if you use the autobox its woeful -maybe 16mpg.
The car doesnt owe me anything, I fly back twice a year for about 12 weeks in total. For me to hire a car for 24 weeks would have been absolute thousands - I bought this and its done me proud- just a shame to see a beautiful car sitting there.Worst case I will just carry on using it as a holiday vehicle, it doesnt cost me anything and insurance is pretty cheap. I did fancy an S type R though for the next 12 weeks.

I would love to have one and I can appreciate what it is but couldn't justify paying 5k for sorry...not with the fuel prices of today - but if it was LPG on the other hand or being priced keen enough to have it fitted this would be another story...
I might actually think about converting it- I dont worry about fuel prices too much but it might make it more sellable in future. Thanks for the thoughtGassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
