Keeping track of race positions
Discussion
An app would be great but the data costs would be horrific. Whilst you'll only be able to see if from a certain spot, Michelin are building a ranking tower somewhere near start finish.
Otherwise I think Radio Le Mans do a position update on the half hour.

30MB for £2.50 a day, would that not be enough to run a half decent timing app & a couple of facebook posts?

The first year i went Le Mans we hired Kangaroo TV and the three of us who shared the cost thought it was a revelation, i still can't believe it didn't catch on.
I'm really not clued up with how much data 30mb is in terms on web content but i know last year a friend paid similar money for that sort of deal (£2.99 for 50mb i think) and checked the live timing on the website a few times with a bit of success but in truth you might as well wait for the Radio Le Mans hourly update because your still relying on good 3G coverage around the circuit.
I guess its only gonna really cost you £5 to cover the 24 hours if you want to give it a try, might be worth it!?

Fan Vision (nee Kangaroo TV) did catch on, then everyone got greedy and couldn't agree on financials (afaik). It's why it got dropped by F1 as well.I'm really not clued up with how much data 30mb is in terms on web content but i know last year a friend paid similar money for that sort of deal (£2.99 for 50mb i think) and checked the live timing on the website a few times with a bit of success but in truth you might as well wait for the Radio Le Mans hourly update because your still relying on good 3G coverage around the circuit.

I think the hourly update is more than good enough. 30MB won't get you very far imho although I use it when over there, but usually have data switched off most of the time

I loved the Kangaroo back then and it was not too bad between us when the cost was split. For me, RLM needed to do more updates as the once an hour could easily be missed and then you may not know what is going on for quite some time. Perhaps they could do a top (or 5 so we know the non Audis) rundown in each class every 15 mins, say spend 20 seconds just reading them out.

Well no one has mentioned the coloured lights on the side pods of the cars different colours for each class and either 1, 2 or 3 lights for first three in each class.
Are they going to work though, as they didn't at Silverstone and I thought the company involved were in financial difficulty, so it might not be in place for Le Mans?To be fair, they got a system in place and more than 90% working in between Silverstone and Spa. There weren't many LMP2 cars without the lights working. It's also, apparently, a far better system as well, continually updating from each sector rather than waiting for the start finish straight.
But yes, I do get your point!
