Hi folks,
first of all, a massive thank you to Colin at TVRS in Wellington for putting me in touch with Julian. A big thanks also goes to Julian for parting with this amazing item. A massive handshake should also go out to Clive for taking the time to create it in the first place. Thanks all
As you may be able to tell, I am rather please/chuffed/proud of my most recent purchase, if I wasn't serious about TVR ownership before, I bloody well am now
When Colin first opened his doors in Wellington, my keen eye spotted a rolling chassis that he was building for a TVR nut called Julian. Big big spec including Carbon Fibre body
But atop this chassis was a tangle of pipes that looked stunning. After asking Colin about them he revealed they were a Clive Ford creation. More information was needed and I found this thread. Alas it turns out Clive decided that no more will be made after the original 2
Ohh well, I thought, I'll make do with what I've got, or so I thought.
A chance conversation with Colin last week and wouldn't you believe it, I had Julians phone number. A couple conversations and a nervous few days wait followed and.... well.... here it is:

A better picture, shamefully stolen from another thread:

It looks amazing up close, the usual level of detail in the welding is ever present and I can't wait to get it on the car and hear it. Does anybody have any clips of a car that is fitted with it?
Now then, what do I do with the decatted Clive Y-Piece I already have
title is tongue in cheek, I realise people may not be jealous

Every time I see these I'm completely torn by it ... it's a monstrosity of a thing, it's huge and ends up dominating the engine bay and because of that I hate it with a passion ...
... but it's also a stunning creation, yes, it's a monstrosity and I do still hate it for that but it's a monstrosity for a reason - it was created as a solution to a "problem". That problem is the reason for its complexity, and, like the Hoover Dam it sticks out like a sore thumb and dominates its local environment but at the same time it has a incredible beauty of its own.
It's something that I'd love to have two of - one on the car and one in my living room as a piece of sculpture - would I actually buy one if Clive was insane enough to start building them commercially? ... I'm sure the cost would be terrifying to make it worth building as a product so Christ knows!
As a piece of engineering though I think that it's Clives' Sistine Chapel, his Mona Lisa ...

As far as I understand it is more than just a pretty bay.
Current (standard) RV8 set up is 8 pipes into 1. This set up is a 8-4-2-1, equal length pipes and links the cylinders which are an engine rotation apart.
I am not technically minded but I believe this is very good and improves torque somewhat. Clive may pop along to explain or there is more to read in the thread I posted in the OP.

Looks bloody fantastic but something like a Carbon triple plenum would of gave you better results..Current (standard) RV8 set up is 8 pipes into 1. This set up is a 8-4-2-1, equal length pipes and links the cylinders which are an engine rotation apart.

Indeed, but a triple plenum will always be for sale, something like this doesn't come up very often Eventually I will get a larger/double/triple plenum and MAF meter to go with it
They are the only unchanged bits left on the induction side of things.Russell Mc said:
I bet the V8 sounds totally different with the equal length pipes?
Never heard it, apparently it's like a AJP V8 and Chim have mated. This is a video of the pipes fitted to Clive F's Griff

Really? Not convinced of that myself - what's your information source to back that statement up? Better results in what way - improved torque, throttle response, maximum power?NickM450 said:
I especially liked the post from Bassfiend, really interesting prospective and I felt a prang of pride when I read the last line about it being considered a Sistine Chapel or Mona Lisa
Aww thanks - I've often been told that I'm a spectacularly cunning linguist.NickM450 said:
As for the Y-Piece, it will indeed be up for sale shortly
/me gets in line patiently...

I played around with equal length linked primaries, which looked like a few trombones stuffed under the bonnet, gains of 25hp plus recorded on four different cars, probably the best sounding car I ever had
