Reading this link, there was talk of losing a limb if lying on it for an extended period. Ive wondered about this for decades (still have both arms).

' ...concerned about the loss of blood flow to the arm stuck beneath the trapped man's body. "If there truly is compromise of the arterial circulation, he could lose a limb" '

Ive woken up having slept on an arm so dead, I cant raise it in the morning, let alone feel it.

Socially, Ive never heard of this as being a concern in every day conversation.
"Night night. Sleep tight. Dont let the bed bugs bite. Try not to loose an arm" isn't something generally said at bedtime.

But it is possible to cut off the circulation whilst asleep, leading to amputation, wouldn't you imagine?

I have wondered about the old boy falling out the front pocket, and getting slept on wrong.
Im sure other chaps have worried "what if" - should one accidentally falling asleep with a close combat sock on, after a romp with a beaver. I never have done.

But back to the arm. It must have happened to someone, at some point.

I fell asleep with my arms folded behind my head once and woke up with NO feel in them whatsoever, i managed to sit up and they fell as a dead weight in front of them.

Was bloody terrifying.

I feel the fear, too, man hehe

Im 15 stone something.
And smoke. So in theory not the best circulation, going by what they say (smokers and bad circulation).
There is the thought that when it happen to someone, it'll be someone like me.

There's a guy at work who almost did this drunk. When he woke, he had lost the use of, and all sensation in, his arm due to nerve damage. He wore a plaster cast for months , and then a wrist support for 18 months. So 2 years in all to recover from it. Damn scary.

Jeebers. Was it mentioned whether the alcohol contributed to the incident, somehow?

Don't know about that but there is a condition where a person doesn't roll over during their sleep. That leads to sores, which do not smell pleasant at all!

I get the numb arm that I have to shake to wake up occasionally, but it is just a compressed nerve isn't it? You'd have to be properly passed out and rather unfortunate to lose circulation and not wake up.

I get a numb arm every so often. It will flop around with no control for about half a minute or so, until circulation returns.. First time it happened it was scary, as my other arm was broken at the time and I could not push myself up.
