Hi All,

Looking for some hotel recommendations in or very close to Bath. Next month I'm hiring a Caterham for the weekend and plan on introducing the Wife to the idea of us (i.e. me) getting one. Plan to blast down through the Cotswolds and hope to make a nice night of it as Mrs ghibbett has never been to Bath.

So we would like a decent guesthouse / hotel (independant is better IMO) for up to £200/night. Any spa facilities would be a welcome bonus. Recommendations?

This place is lovely: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g186370-...

We stayed there last year. I've been in a lot of hotels around the world but this genuinely is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. The family that run it are very friendly, the husband especially has great chat. Go for the room with the four poster bed. smile

The town centre is about 15 mins walk away.

If you don't mind driving in, there's a hotel in Castle Combe, which is wonderful.

Apsely House. Built by and for the Duke of Wellington. I'd suggest the "Romantic Room" if you wish your missus to forget about the discomfort of the Caterham hehe

I can recommend this one, again, about 10mins walk into town but lovely and a strong promoter of local businesses so we had a great dinner at a little restaurant they recommended...

We recently stayed here (it won the Best B&B in the UK Award recently) and whilst I couldnt say that it was the best ever (as I havent stayed at them all yet wink ) it was certainly very, very good. Less than 10 mins walk into town but the owner gave us a lift unprompted..which was nice

Ticked every box.

Also I posted on the SW forum on PH asking for advice on pubs and restaurants which may be of help:

Just out of interest are you hiring it from Seven Hire?

I'm tempted to hire one for a weekend at some point over the next few months and being in Bristol they sound ideal.

Coming down through the Cotswolds, the road through Bibury is lovely (as is the village). Then there are alternative routes than the A46 into Bath (for example, Tormarton => Marshfield => Batheaston => Bath).

The hotel looks good. If you walk into town from there (downhill all the way!) The Bear pub is good for a midway drink, then there are loads of restaurants in town.

I know it's over your budget but if you can stretch it to stay here, you will not regret it.

We stayed in the hotel last August for our wedding anniversary and I cannot rate the place enough. It's excellent and I intend going back again this year for 2 or 3 nights.

Good choice. Hope you enjoy. It's a lovely building and the family who own it are very pleasant. We had a lovely time.
