Now that its become clear(er) that the GT3 and GT3 RS will be PDK only, does that leave room for a Manual Cayman GT3?

The 911 GT3 and turbo are Porsches halo models (so far) and I guess they compete with the F458's and MP412C's of this world but those cars are a good 50% more expensive.

Are we seeing the slow shift of prices for the top of the range 911's (GT3, Turbo, GT2's, RS's etc) moving towards the £200k mark?

Current 991 GT3 costs £100k
Possible 991 GT3 RS would be around £125k?
Current 991 Turbo costs £118k-£140k
997 GT2 RS was around £164k
Possible 991 GT2 RS would be around ???

If this upward trend of prices continues, I think it will leave space in the market for a Cayman GT3 with 400BHP a manual (6 speed) gearbox for sale around the £75k mark.

I hope they make one!

It would be better than carrera S for same money but not better than GT3. Maybe they will make it. There is a market for it like CR showed last gen.

I reckon Porsche would be absolutely stupid to apply the GT3 moniker to anything other than a 911. But I'd like to see a proper hard-core Cayman.

Drop the base Carrera (there's far too many 911 models now), and bring in a manual (PDK option), 375bhp Cayman CS I say.

Well, it just won't happen until such time (if ever) that the 911 finally dies a death.

I do hope that a hot Cayman appears (and there's every indication that it will), but don't expect a mid engined GT3 with a Spanish box.

We're far more likely to receive a ~350bhp Cayman R; which I for one would be quite tempted by. If I didn't own a GT3... hehe

I don’t want to divulge my sources (it was a Porsche employee), but I was told recently to expect a Cayman GTS announcement before too long…

Sounds promising ears Any idea on BHP?

No BHP figures quoted, but an increase is of course very likely.
I think it makes sense (and so I tend to believe what I was told) as GTS is already a proven 'post nominal' combination and designation in other model ranges.

I agree. I was using the GT3 moniker to say 'more focused'.

I should have just said R as I am pretty sure they will make another R version (as that has been done before) but as has been mentioned above, they are thinking of a GTS version.

Since the new GT3 is an 'upgraded' version of the base engine, as opposed to previous generations using the Mezger...

I assume it will be (relatively) straightforward to drop a GT3 engine in your 981/991...

I suspect the aftermarket will be doing this fairly shortly, if that is the case, thus you'd hope Porsche would see the market for it!

The Cayman R is pretty awesome right now with a few tweeks.

I don't want a GT3 one as it would ruin it imo.

360 BHp on the new Sports chassie and some weight saving would be enough, with buckets etc as standard and better steering ie the GT3 tweeks to the electric, and real gear ratio's (but the latter will not happen imo). SO it will have to be PDK.

Fed up of hardcore cars which are unusable.

Funny people posting saying they cannot talk , when the interview with Porsche said a GTS is coming any way and is all over the net lol.

My advice is buy a R now, add some non n spec tyres and increase the camber and you have the perfect car for the road with the best steering around.

I grin every drive in mine with these tweeks, it's an amazing car.

why ? the gear ratio's are too long, you cannot use the power, it does not handle as well, or steer as well.

So no thanks, Cayman R every time for me.

Thanks MrDemon

I am more than happy with my current car at the moment which is a 997.1 GT3 Comfort Spec (without bucket seats) winkhehe

I am just curious as to which way Porsche will go with the Cayman as I find it amusing how fast modern cars are getting.

I think the Cayman is a great package and I would love to see a more hardcore version appearing.

Yes, you said all that already. But I still don't understand it. As per just about any Porsche, the car is geared to redline at its VMAX. I'm not sure what else you expect? If the gearing was any shorter, the car would buzz its limiter unless there was greater aero to compensate.

Handling? The GT3's suspension is completely adjustable. If you can't get it to 'handle' or 'steer' to your liking, something is very wrong.

I appreciate the Cayman R, but it's just not in the same league. Sorry.

any kind of cayman special is 2 years away if it follows porsche specials of before a boxster will be first to have a makeover.
dont expect to much in the bhp stakes 10hp extra maybe, shame as it would be so easy for porsche to slot the 991 3.4 lump in with its extra torque and then have an ecu tune to 360hp add some buckets, pse, sports chassis for a token £5k extrabiglaugh

I don't get this cayman GT3 thing. There is no such thing in racing.

The cayman R was controversial enough but seems to fit the car.

Apologies.

I know the GT3 is unique, I just meant a more focused Cayman (more so than the Cayman R) and the moniker GT3 seemed to fit the bill

What you going on about lol ?
Lets take a faster vmax car like a ferrari, that does about 60 in 2nd and mid 80 in 3rd.
Do you know what gear ratio and final drive is ?

Handy owning a GT3 in London though , 88mph in 2nd !!!

And I don,t call a bobing nose, bumpsteer or having to trail brake, steering to my liking.
Or having the engine slung out the back having perfect handling, which in every new model they try and bring in a little lol.

So yes the Cayman is in another league :-) and why the 918 is the same layout.

Or mr Harris in every new GT3 review saying the last one under steered , must make the early ones go straight on ;-) the way he always talks about how bad it was.

As for the cars you see on track , most have so much neg camber they have to be trailer there !!!
