I ask this because the OHs nephew is on nine points. I always thought he was a "disorganised" sort of driver (scrapes all over car, zero TLC). He doesn't drive a fast car either, a battered N reg 1.2 Corsa. He's also very definitely not thick - he has a very good job and is very bright indeed - I guess "bright" and "common sense" aren't the same thing though.

Despite 9 points he's been speeding through a camera every day ("it was disconnected a year ago" wtf? Says who?) and has just received 3 speeding fines from said camera through the post. I'm lost for words.

If I'd got nine points I'd be driving like a tortoise.

He's in for a ban then... unless he can prove he needs his car for his livlihood and has a very lenient judge.

Yup, if I were on nine points I'd be very careful.

He'll learn from that, shirley?

I'm guessing not much common sense then.

Not sure I'd knowingly speed through a camera just in case it has become active......

Maybe the period on the bus will help him understand a little better.

If I ever had the misfortune to get to 9 points, I'd be driving like Miss Daisy.....

Addicted to speed then, daft as it may sound, this may finally have an effect on him, or he will loose his license, job etc and then realise.

Either way it's going to be expensive for him in solicitor and fine(s).

I had 11. Two years of driving like I had a bomb in the back. I think it actually did me good.

This is the thing: he isn't. He has no interest in cars or driving at all; he uses a car to get from A to B. Nothing more. All his fines have been for driving round town 38 in a 30 type of stuff.

Probably a good thing for the rest of us then that he's off the road.

Sounds more like he's just a very inattentive driver who doesn't engage much of his mental faculties when driving.

Probably for the best that he gets a wake-up call but I'd be surprised if it changes his 'driving character'.

Personally, if I had nine points I'd be 'Driving Miss Daisy' when on the road. Given the preponderance of big brother cameras on the roads I'd probably also cut down on unnecessary journeys as much as possible to minimise the risk of losing the license.

.. And invest in something like a GPS 'safety' camera warning system.

If i had 9 points id be driving the same as i always have.

I'm not perfect, i do exceed the speed limit, not always and to be perfectly honest not often but it happens, if i get caught its on me, my own fault nobody elses. I dont speed in stupid places.

I have 0 points though smile

I got 3 points when I was 18. The 6 months between then and when the 2 year period where 6 points would mean licence removal lapsed, I was very conscious of how fast I was going at all times. It was fking horrible to be honest, my eyes were on my speedo as much as the road I was so concerned about losing my licence.

I was an arse, I drove before I had my licence. I was caught, banned and issued with 8 points.

I have now had my licence nearly 5 years.
If I was caught for anything withing my first 2 years then I was screwed.

I have driven to the conditions from the day I passed my test. Yes at times I have came close to fking up, speeding etc.

Thankfully I am much more responsible and actually my driving is far superior now compared to before.
It has done me the world of good and I do believe if I had continued to be irresponsible then I probably would have had or caused a fatal accident.

Slowly very slowly. I got 6 points once and drove very carefully the following 3 years and that was even though I had had my license for about 8+years.

This kid sounds like he does not deserve to be behind the wheel as he is just not cut out for it.
