Do we like those ?
Discussion
I sometimes get the feeling with petrolheads there is a bit of a herd mentality, certain cars pop up and some seem to get reverence, hushed worship and the odd "Sex Wee", like certain models get cannonised, some of it is obviously deserved but some seems to be over the top, I have a distinct feeling that some have to check back through old thread to see if the collective like that particular model in case they mistakenly Eulogise about an MGTF and have to cancel their membership.
Is there list being passed round ?

If there is a list I'd love to see it.
I often find myself at odds with a majority opinion, despite having an MX5 and a BMW.
I was also recently accused of following the herd when I said I liked the Alfa SZ, which is odd as I thought it was just me and my little brother who had ever wanted one. Apparently that is on the list too.
We could start a couple of lists:
Cliche PH Love:
MX5 mk1
E30 M3
Alfa SZ
Cliche PH Hate:
Prius
All French other than 205s and hot Clios
New Beetle
ETA: Really not sure where to put the 911. Some hate, some love, some love only air cooled, some hate all but GT3s and some find the Targa to be utterly hideous.

This made me laugh into my brew. It's why I don't post much. You free thinkers aren't invited.
I fear that if I were to suggest that only people who cut hair should drive MX5's, a group of powerfully built company directors are going to come and find me and burn me at the stake.

From threads I've seen it seems to be anything RWD is hated on here. Say anything about enjoying RWD and the words 'driving god' start to appear...
You must be reading another Piston Heads. The standard line is no matter what it is if it is FWD it is a "shopping trolley"!Captain Muppet said:

I never liked the SZ until I seen one in the flesh, now I adore them, if I had the garage space I would buy one (can't leave something like that in the rain).Edited by Captain Muppet on Tuesday 18th June 17:29
I think there's an important distinction between cars that are worshiped for what they can do and cars that adored for what they are.
I love the F40. I shouldn't love it. It's not normally aspirated, it was assembled by workshy Italian peasant-folk resulting in panel gaps you could drive a Transit through and in a game of hypercar Top Trumps it's beaten by everything. Having said that, I had a poster of one on my bedroom wall as a child and that created a want that will never go away. I even fairly sure I'd never want to drive one for fear of disappointment but as an object, as something to adore, nothing beats it.
Then there are cars like the GT86, which on paper make no sense but they drive near perfectly for me and I love them because of what they can do and how they do it.
Distinction. Important.

What you're failing to take into account, is that most RWD cars are also shopping trolleys. The trolleyishness of a car is not directly related to the driven wheels.
Don't forget the whole diesels are crap thing <yawn>, French cars are s
t (but TVRs, well known for their peerless build quality and reliability are revered), RWD blah blah. Oh - and those who pick out a tiny detail on an otherwise nice picture of a perfectly pretty girl and say it's a "ten pinter" etc.
Personally I'm convinced that these hive mind "thinkers" just live at home with their mums and sit on teh internet wearing their stained, grey, rigid Y front having hand shandies over a picture of a "Chim".

Ultimately, I buy what I want and often what i don't want because a particular car may be in fantastic condition, a bargain, low miles etc etc. I have rarely gone out to buy a single model, blind to anything else, because what I'm looking for is a car I like, which looks good and does what I want it to do and which I can afford.
If anything, I tend to shun anything that has been deified on this forum, especially BMWs. I once went in an MX5 and thought it was fairly rank and equally once owned a Corvette C4 which I found biblically epic.

I'm missing these pictures of pretty girls, I'm clearly hanging out in the wrong areas...
