And I for one would be happy to put up a deposit now to show our commitment.
At least from this they will have an idea of how many and if it is worth considering.

A couple of hundred quid would make sense. With respect, giving any organisation a hefty amount of money pre-event is not sensible in 2009 with business failures.

As a gesture of committment, then yes, an appropriate amount could be lodged.
