Passat CC, looking for yout thoughts
Discussion
It LOOKS fantastic but no doubt it will be as numb as the rest of the current VAG products on offer at the moment
I am basing my opinion here on having an 8p A3 170tdi and a B8 A4 170tdi
They looked great but they just didn't feel special to drive, seeing as the passat is based on a similar platform I can't see it being different
The looks of the Passat can't be faulted I think they look fantastic

Had a ride in the back of one a few months back. It was the most luxurious car I've ever travelled in and I've been in high end Porsches, BMWs and Mercs. It was just so quiet and smooth. I was really impressed!
However, it probably isn't great to chuck around and I think the electric handbrake would irritate me.

I'm in the same position as you, and also added the c-class to that list. After looking at them all, I have ordered the CC!
For something of that nature (a mid-range, diesel, 4 door saloon) ultimate driving dynamics are just not that relevant, so it comes down to aesthetics, kit, comfort, refinement and cost. Mine will replace a company car, so BIK also plays a part.
Without any preconceptions (other than I had pretty much decided against the 3-series) I genuinely expected to go for the Merc', but really didn't like it. The A4 is very nice, inside and out, but I've had one before and it's nice to have a change.
Alfa 159 Ti, as already mentioned, was also tempting (it's a much bigger car than the 156 incidentally), but I couldn't make the lease price work for me.

Thought I'd add: With the ride set to "comfort" it's very waft-aroundable(!), on "sport" it's almost as harsh as my Saab. The electric handbrake actually becomes second nature almost immediately - press to release when you first move off and that's it. When you come to a stop it applies automatically and releases when you pull away. MUCH easier to live with than the C-class' that I also test drove foot operated nonsense. However, it probably isn't great to chuck around and I think the electric handbrake would irritate me.
I've got one as a company car. It's a 140 manual CC GT.
It's great, took my wife, 1 kid, 1 dog and me back and forth to France to see the family in quiet comfort.
I went for the 140 for 2 reasons:
-1 because of the tax on the 170
-2 because even with the smaller diesel, the front wheels will spin off the light. It's enough to overtake on B roads.
All in all I didn't see the point of a more powerfull engine for waht is essentially a cruiser and will never be a sports car.
Plus points: sound proofing, suspensions, comfort ("sport" seats are very hugging), stereo, space inside, space in the boot (bigger than standard Passat), looks.
Bad points: not a sports car, like to understeer if too enthusiastic driving, bodywork shape makes it prone to dents in supermarket car parks...park away! Not good for very tall people in the back because of slopping roof line.
I love mine!
