If its had bits chopped off to make it a more sensible road car then obviously less.
You think it's worth less as a road car? I'd expect the opposite.Mark UB said:
I think you are right Graham, That's why i'm probably going down the Cerbera route.
You can buy a speed 6 Cerbera for 7k, sell the engine, wheels, interior etc for 3/4k so you've got a base car for peanuts.

Stick a LS3 in it, cage, fire etc and you have new class A car for 15k
Good luck... :-) It can end up costing a lot more than you think to convert a road car to a race car...You can buy a speed 6 Cerbera for 7k, sell the engine, wheels, interior etc for 3/4k so you've got a base car for peanuts.

I'd talk to the likes of Kev and Cliff who have done just that, for some pointers... Im not saying it cant be done, just that it can end up costing a lot more.. its all the little bits that add up.. and I costed it out at 10-15k to put an LS3 in an existing car, and I've built a total of 5 cars over the years, so I've seen how much things cost, and im fairly tight and do most of the work in house.. Using all new parts on an unused chassis its cost about 10-15k in parts to put a tuscan rolling chassis together !!
Its always going to be cheaper to buys something ready to go... but that doesnt give you the satisfaction of having done it all yourself the way you want it.. Also its probably the only way to get a racing cerbera at the moment !! Georges Cerbera chassied S is about the closest thing available and a steal at 12-13k.. even at 15-20k a ready to go tuscan represents good value imho..
Im not trying to put you off far from it, I want to see you on the grid next year, and I'd love to see more cerbs out there on the track.. just treable check all the sums, I've seen plenty of part built projects stall when the bills come in..
Cheers

There are many cars out there of varying condidtions rangng from around 16k to 25k + at present.; some are ready to race, others need work doing to them. even after buying mine last year I spent the best part of 6k on it before racing it (not inc paint)
so I would hazard that the car is probably worth about 23-25k less the cost of prep to get it fully sorted for the fist race of the season. If it needs a full going over and replacement parts then it could be about 17k.
Having said that other cars have also changed hands in good nick for not much more than 16k.
swings and roundabouts.

Do you really think a road legal racing Tuscan with a standard road 4.5AJP is worth that much Owen.Having said that other cars have also changed hands in good nick for not much more than 16k.

I don't think so especially when you can pick up a good 2000 lightweight 4.5 Cerbera for 10/12k.
Like you said swings and rounabouts.

edited again to clarify the state of the Race car market not the converted for the use on the road market. sorry - went off on one!

Any car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. I had offers as low as £13k for the Lee Caroline car - but I was never going to sell it for that, I'd rather have tucked it away for a couple of years.
You might get the odd car selling for 'below market rate' because the owner needs to shift it on in a hurry. In my opinion decent spec Tuscans with full race spec AJP, in good condition are worth ~ £20k, and that has been about the norm, give or take the odd (one?) exception.
If a car has just had the engine and box rebuilt then that would bump the value up to £24-25k. For that you'd expect to see a car pretty much ready to race, ECU with timer removed, bodywork all in good nick, decent spec dash system with datalogging, floor mounted pedals, at least one spare set of wheels and possibly some spares.
Grant's car is more difficult to value (Hi Grant by the way!). I would have thought something like £17-18k, but be prepared to accept £15k if you don't want it sitting in the classifieds all winter.
If you wanted to race Grant's car then you'd want to refresh the engine (and box?) and may need to put a roll cage bar back in. You'd also be wise to change the front hubs... and possibly wheel bearings and brake seals all round. Depends how much he's been using it recently. I always liked the car - it's honest, in that its quite clearly a race car put on the road.

Having just done a deal to sell my tuscan, I feel I must write, Prepped cars with fresh engines are well worth 25k all the day long as my pal Andy has suggested, sure there is some "knockin about" for a little less, I considered one car a few years ago that has now been for sale for over 4 yrs!!!!! and that is a 20k car.. If the people who look at the cars REALLY want one they would not be on here arguing how much they are worth, they would be in the garage polishing the Tuscan Challenge car and getting sorted for testing and a full season racing.... Get yer wallet out.

Dont think anyone would argue that Sam as long as prepped was prefixed with very nice - it's the in-betweens that are difficult to both evaluate and value fairly something that ceratinly can't be done on any website!Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
