Looks really clean.

I've had a 2003 172 (non cup) for about 6 weeks now and it is a great little car. I did fancy a cup, its a great colour and the wheels are nicer than standard, but I'm doing high motorway miles so the cruise control and autochanger are big advantages.

Have you joined the Clio sport club? Seems to be a good comunity with some good diy guides for comon jobs.

Identical to my old Cup - even down the badges on the doors. Great little car.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Were the door badges optional when the cars were ordered? I've seen some with them and some without and guessed some had been taken off/stolen.

My NS door is actually missing a '2' unfortunately. Luckily I have access to a lot of acrylic in lots of colours so I'm planning to make one hehe

That will be the one and only mod I do to it - actually that's more of a restoration I suppose. Not many standard ones around these days, so I'm keeping mine as it is biggrin
I think the badges were dealer fit (same for the splitter). That explains why they sometimes are missing or in different places. They should be in the position you have them. They're only a self-adhesive plastic badge and the numbers do tend to fall off! Mine lost its 2s' too. You can buy the full set for a few quid from Renault. I opted to strip off the numbers and just leave the 'Cup' as that was going to stay on.

2 colours, I thought the blue was the only one?
Silver and AC was an option for the last year of production. Its not a proper Cup with AC though wink

great little cars IMO, enjoyed mine when i had it. The cup172 badges come off very easily when washing them, hence alot dont have them, and they are £20ish for new ones. also the splitters break for fun and they are over £100!

Looks smart.

A couple of silvervision front indicator bulbs will brighten up the light units no end! biggrin.

What are they? They sound like they might be silver instead of orange?

I was looking at one with AC, not because it had AC but it was just as smart as this one. Glad I didn't as I'd be tempted to use it in the summer and drain the power/fuel.
Yep silvervision means you lose the orange colour of the indicators - same look as 182. Never bothered me, I quite liked the orange on my Cup.

RE AC - I doubt it makes that much of a difference really. The 172 Cups' do tend to make the book power on rolling roads, some say the lack of AC pump helps this. Best benefit is that a cambelt change is cheaper as there is less labour required. I never had a big problem with being too hot in summer, but then it was never a commuter for me.

Myself and the wife both bought Clio's in 2002 and had them for years (I've still got my one). Her's didn't have AC, mine does. In the Summer taking hers is a bit of a pain (was), mainly because you have to have the windows down on the motorway which makes it very noisy. That's the only downside really, if you don't mind the din it's fine.

I'm pretty used to no AC from my Fiesta, I just got used to it on motorways in the end. Actually I'm used to it blowing out hot air constantly! I'm just glad to have anything other than face meltingly hot.

I got it for £3600 after a (very) small amount of haggling... as you do. The guy selling was a nice bloke and it is in great condition so I felt it was well worth what he was asking for it.

It also has some Clio Williams mats in it which was a bit of a bonus wink

Thread bump, still got her. A few photos after a wash today.

I want a different car but I just can't sell this when it's so damn good and inexpensive to run. I may end up running two cars at this rate.

Trying to work out how much its worth as well, anyone got an ideas?

100% Standard
Full service history
94500 miles
10 months MOT
Tax until the end of this month
Cam belt due in March 2014

In the last year it is has had:
02/12/11 - 12k Service @ 85862 miles - Fred at BTM Performance.
02/12/11 - New OSR and NSR wheel bearings - Fred at BTM Performance.
19/05/12 - Reconditioned headlights.
22/05/12 - New genuine Renault rear exhaust silencer and exhaust sleeve.
02/06/12 - 2x new Toyo T1-R Proxes tyres (front).
16/08/12 - Gearbox oil replaced - Fred at BTM Performance
31/08/12 - MOT @ 91915 miles
29/09/12 - NGK PFR6E-10 Spark Plugs @ 92916 miles
14/10/12 - Brake fluid bled and replaced with DOT4 @ 93680

Problems: Has the airbag and SERV light illuminated. Very slight oil leak from the NS drive shaft. Some light scrapes to the front and rear bumpers (wasn't me!)

I think it's somewhere in the region of £1800. But someone I know reckons at least £2k as standard is hard to find.

Great cars these, and yours looks a really nice example! I think £1800-£2000 is about right. I'm sure these will be worth hanging onto as a future classic, a few years down the line obviously.

Could be if you sort the dash lights out..

Check the connections under the seats for the airbag lights, can the serv be reset? BTM should be able to help
