Autosport show - Lack of respect?
Discussion
Sorry if this has been raised before, but I suppose this is an issue more globally rather than just at a show... but you would imagine that if you are paying £35 quid to go look at some awesome cars you'd respect them.
I went on Saturday and saw countless people prodding, poking and touching. This is bad enough but I saw countless people dragging coats, bags, rucksacks, and even some people LEANING on vehicles - Shows an utter disregard for peoples property.
You would think that paying such an amount to get in you would be the type of car enthusiast to know - don't touch - But it seems it's more for people who "like cars" rather than people who are "car enthusiasts".
Seems a shame and very infuriating, if my car was inside I'd spend the whole time telling people not to touch, or want it gated off - which seems a shame as you can't look at the details on some of these cars from 6 ft away!
Notable mention was an asian chap who opened the door of a R34 GTR and leant in to get a photo of the interior dragging his coat and camera bag along the wing in the process.
On an unrelated note -
The show itself was OK. Would go next year but will be booking in advance rather than waiting for the guy with far too many shirt buttons undone and too much time spent on his hair, yet completely unable to speak to people or even process a simple ticket purchase in less than half an hour!

The general public are stupid. They have no awareness of what they are doing or the impact it has to other people. They've paid their ticket money so as far as they're concerned they are entitled to do what they please.
That first sentence sums it all up. I used to go to car shows back in the late 90's and I always thought the exhibitors were mad letting chavs wander round their pride and joy with their handbags and knuckleduster rings coming so close to the bodywork all day long.xjay1337 said:

These are the same sorts of people who get all up in the faces of beefeaters and the horse guards surrounding royal property. Just one day it would be good to see them put their bayonets to good use.Major Fallout said:
Its better on the Thursday and Friday, less hordes of penguin footed waddling chavs.
Very small show I thought this year, even compared to the year they did it on the boat.

Won't be returning, nothing has changed since I went last about 3 years ago
Many many years ago I exhibited at the very first National Classic Car Show at the NEC.
I took two DeLoreans, a Ferrari Daytona & a couple of other 'normal' cars.
The DeLoreans were barriered off with Do Not Touch signs (for obvious reasons) around them.
So you would have expected Joe Public to leave the cars alone.
Wrong.
The ignorant f
kers wouldn't stop touching the DeLoreans using the excuses that they just wanted to feel the stainless steel etc etc.
Why? It was (is IMO) a crap car built using an awful body covering so as per the signs - Don't Touch the bloody cars!!!!!
After three days the cars were in a real mess with finger prints, scrapes & dents all over. Took us weeks to get the bodywork back to normal so as the OP wrote - no respect.
Personally I would put electrified fencing around the stands. That would stop the buggers.....

ds.This sounds bloody awful, and in complete contrast to some of the car shows I've been to on the continent. Essen Techno Classica in particular is a favourite of mine, where you can walk right up to the vast majority of the cars, and yet all the paying public seem very contentious and respectful of everything there. And we're even talking about the likes of 250LMs and 917s, yet still being able to get right up close for a proper look
