UPDATE - IDEA FOR KINGSTON LACY JULY EVENT
I have been in touch with Ride/Drive, the advanced driving tuition company who have put me in touch with Chris Gilbert - a former Class 1 police driver in the Met, and the chap who taught Princes William and Harry to drive.
Driving 4 Tomorrow
He is willing to come to the event for free and provide a talk of around 45 minutes about advanced driving techniques, probably at about 11.30.
I have checked with the venue and they have provisionally reserved a function room for us which holds around 30 people maximum. I will absorb the booking cost for this, but I would ask that anyone who wants to listen to the talk gives a few quid donation to the Air Ambulance.
Who would be interested in this?

Oh Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
13th is in the Car Hospital! It's not terminal but she won't be out for this weekend!
We will still be there but in my car, although a lovely XKR it's just not going to be the same and I bet I don't get a photo with the lovely (one can always hope) Helicopter pilot.........

Just to make things clear:
After the air base visit we will be passing back through Sherborne (and right past the castle) to start the countryside drive, so anyone who wishes to start heading home can peel off when convenient.
The Air Ambulance Base
The base is on a working airfield with light aircraft landing and taking off. Before entering the airfield, we will regroup on the road outside the gate. We are allotted a time slot of about 10 minutes to get in and parked when all air and ground traffic will be halted for us. The same goes for when we leave. Once in, you will not be able to leave the base until we all leave in the exit time slot.
The Photo Opportunity
Due to the Air Ambulance being on constant mission standby, we cannot accommodate every car around the helicopter in case they need to take off. To make it fair, I intend selling separate colour raffle tickets for the photo for a quid each (more money for the charity!) and we'll pull 10 or so from the hat after the main prize raffle.
I think we should add a couple of the very tasty cars to the mix whether they win or not to make the pictures even more spectacular. What do you think?
Those who have won a place will be parked separately from the rest when we arrive at the air ambulance base to make manoeuvring for the photo easier.
The Sound Test + Prize
We have a meter kindly lent by Dulford Automotive. If you want to participate, you'll need to grab the person with the meter. You'll be asked to keep your engine at a steady 4000rpm (or 2/3rds of your range) for a few seconds while the reading is taken. Your reg / car will be recorded with your sound level. The noisiest sod wins the prize! Prize will probably be a nice bottle of wine.
- 10.30am - meet at Sherborne Castle
- 2.45pm - Charity Raffle
- 3pm - Leave for Air Ambulance base
- 3.30pm - Arrive at base (meet crew / sound test / photos)
- 4pm to 4.30pm - Leave base for drive
- 6pm to 6.30pm - End of drive at Cartgate Picnic Area on A303 near Yeovil
