Hi Guys would love to come along to the classic Le mans and Le Chateau. Not a Ultima owner yet but will order kit in March. The cars we will bring with us will be a Nobby + pick up truck.
Please add us to your list.

regards John
Added mate. Where are you traveling from? Could you help carry some of the gear if needed with the pick-up? (Just a thought) scratchchin

Paul,
Not having been to the Le Mans Classic before perhaps you could advise what the normal state of play is? Tickets? where do you normally park at the circuit? do we go in convoy?, etc. etc.

Hi David
The whole trip is quite fluid with nothing planned. People just come and go as they please.
Tickets can be bought on the gate which we would normally do on Thursday or Friday and there will be no more than a dozen people ahead of you in a queue.
Across the road is the 'parking blue' where we again get a parking ticket which lasts for the whole weekend. This seems to get you into other car parks but I suspect that is only at night when they don't seem to care.
I expect there will be some sort of events at the Chateau, concourse de elegance, buffet meal etc.
we will find out when we get there.
We tend to eat as and when pleases us and in smaller groups. A quick blat down to the supermarket and back with an arm full of French stick bread and patee would be the norm or a meal in the Chateau restaurant.
Just about the only bit organized is this thread and Paul contacting Dominique to get us all dumped together on the site.

Steve.D's post pretty much sums the trip up wink However here is a brief version of my itinery and a list of other events I know of.

If anyone else knows of other stuff worth knowing about please feel free to add/edit.

Wednesday night - 23:00 sailing out of Portsmouth to Le Harvre

Thursday am - Arrive in Le Harvre & drive down to camp site. Probably stop for a bite en route.

Thursday early PM - Arrive & wind up Dominique. Build tent. Chill out.

Thursday evening - Maybe have a beer or maybe go down to the night time practice at the circuit. Arrive at circuit about 21:00

Friday am - Dunno, might go down to Mulsanne straight, Arnarge or chill out in chair.

Friday pm - Dunno, might go down to Mulsanne straight, Arnarge or chill out in chair.

Friday evening - Dunno, might go down to Mulsanne straight, Arnarge or chill out in chair with a beer.

Saturday - As per Friday but might go & see some racing.

Sunday - As per Friday but might go & see some racing. Will wander round & join in the Camp site event that will have been organised.

Monday - Pack up tent & drive to Honfleur for some nice food.

Monday 17:00 - Catch ferry from Le Harvre.

Monday 21:30 - Poodle back to home from Portsmouth

As you can see we don't do stress & we don't do hassle. On top of the above there is normally something informally organised on Pistonheads whereby a meet is setup on the Friday. One of the local villages may have a welcoming arranged. The camp site will have a formal event arranged for the Sunday evening. Buffet style food with cocktails on the lawn type thing. Concours De Elegance etc.

Other info ....

Tickets can be bought at the circuit any time. We buy ours on the Thursady night if we go down.
Parking is available in about half a dozen big car parks.
With this many cars going down, some form of convoy/convoys will develop to & from the ports.
Taxi travel to the circuit is available from the Chateau with prior booking.
I'll be trying to arrange some sort of support vehicle nearer the time for cars traveling locally or joining up with us. (Would be looking for some form of contribution towards the costs)
Suggest others may want to do the same.

I understand that the local area is keen to support the Classics so other things may be happening that we are not yet aware of!

Relax and have fun

ETA - The Events forum on PH has some useful threads running re The Classics. Worth keeping an eye on.

Any parking on asphalt, with good large vehicle access, for a 45' motorhome towing 22' enclosed trailer? Access is important. Something like a (very) big parking lot.

We'd like to come up from Spain for Le Mans with the Ultima. Thanks!

There was a big motorhome there last time we were there. He was on the grass. There is plenty of that?

Perhaps one of the veterans can help.

Steve/Paul,

I'm coming, but this year I shall decline the offer (before it arrives) of sleeping half cut and freezing to death in Steve's awning, and will take up residence with Ms Lucky in the Chateau.

Dominique wants to know what nights I want. Is it Thursday/Friday/Sat/Sun?

Those nights sound right. I'll be arriving on Thursday 8th July 2010 and leaving Monday 12th July.

I can't believe your not slumming it out on the lawn? Must be something to do with you going soft in a GT3? wink

There are no asphalt areas that I have seen but the grass areas are OK and there have been plenty of very large motorhomes there in the past. Was well impressed with one that came in and self levelled itself on jacks as the owner put the awning out so he could watch the flat screen TV built into the outside wall under the awning.

are there rooms in the house at the camp site? That sounds good. None left though I would guess...

Are you in a room in the Château or in the Boathouse. The Boathouse is divided into a couple of gites and would be very nice.

I think in the Chateau:

"Dear Peter,
I book for you 4 nights in the "king bedroom" !!!! for a global price of 500 euros.
Amitiés
Dominique"

I am in the process of booking a Gite with 2 rooms 4 single beds for the 4 nights. I will probably have 2 spare beds. Is anyone interested at cost price? currently 174 Euros for 3 nights just waiting on price for 4th night.

Thanks, we may be tempted by the grass although 24 tons is a stickle to get out if it rains. After missing it often, I do hope we make it this time.
