Dare to be different!!!!
Discussion
I hope this thread has not offended anyone. If your chosen car is in a standard colour etc and you are happy with it then great. What I was interested in was those people who for no other reason other than a selfish self indulgence had decided to tread a path less ordinary. Its not because you are making a statement, it’s just because it’s your money and you liked it and screw what anyone else thinks. And that would go for the car or the colour.
It just makes me smile when I see a car like this, I may not like it but I totally respect the owner’s choice to be a bit different

There's a great danger in thinking like this though, the danger is that you may be making assumptions. I'm a motor sport fan, so i like to be wearing the nations sporting colours if I can, hence the silver (well, more grey actually) Boxster. When I see the Silver Arrows all lined up at the festival of Speed i just know that i made the choice that i had to.
Likewise, my Ferrari would have to be red.
And being a pragmatic person, i like to choose what suits me best and sod what anyone thinks. I can comfort myself by telling myself that those who worry about herd mentality have possibly never heard of the Silver Arrows.

Am I showing that I can stubbornly be the same as everyone else?

Odd colours can grow on you. When i bought my Astra I thought the colour was revolting, but when it came to re spray time a year later it had grown on me so much i had a fresh coat of snot green applied.

My friends hated it, but after a new paint job everybody seems to like it.
That's the same colour as my first car (Astra Estate). It was known as the green machine by the family and the flying bogey by everyone else.

I loved that car, by the time I finished Uni it was a nasty mottled colour but a couple of days with T-cut got it back looking OK. 2 weeks later I scrapped it

I think I choose what I want, when I can, which is why I drive a Skoda I guess. I would've liked black but there weren't any about so had to settle for that race blue (vRS).
I used to have a yellow S1 Elise 111s with a green roof, green leather and green mats. It looked amazing and I loved it.
It is funny how some dealers really don't want you to buy anything other than the norm though. The missus was virtually told she couldn't have a red SLK but they offered 3 shades of silver...

1) Resale can become an issue if you go for wild colours/interiors. Especially on everyday hatches, saloons etc.
2) Lots of people choose to buy second hand, or don't have the luxury of buying new, so have to stick with whatever choices have been made by the first owner. Who usually stick to conventional colours, for the reason above.

Green astra & capri above look great in drab green!
I had a beige 944 with, wait for it, a BROWN interior. I still miss this car. I had serious doubts over the colour combo when I bought it, but the condition was too good to let it pass.

Was actually Pastel Beige, a rare factory colour. Like a slightly warmer Old English White, - looked great in the flesh.

My daily is silver though!
Seen this at Cosford I think - cracking motor and the colour suits it!

Your examples are extreme. Have you ever seen an orange Ferrari? Or a white one? They don't look that great. Or how about a black Lambo? It hides the lines.
There are people with ugly color combination (like that Arab white/pink Murcielago), but it looks ugly as hell. What's the point, just to say you're unique?

Taste is individual - some people may hate that orange Morgan or the Green Astra (I think both work, personally), yet for someone else it'll be the perfect colour. There are people with ugly color combination (like that Arab white/pink Murcielago), but it looks ugly as hell. IMHO, (almost) anything other than silver or grey is worth a punt!
