sports bike to supermotard?
Discussion
there is a lovely black husky on ebay at the moment, unfortunatly i still have my bikeat the moment so no cash
having a go on the ktm 690 will be interesting as though its billed as a supermotard its very lardy compared with the husky, its a shame i havent found one round here to have a go on
do you just use your for hooning or do you have a wee commute on it? i take it its your only bike at the moment?

If your looking at a 690 make sure it's the SMC model , believe me they are a very good bike , a pal has one and it's the best of the road orientainted moto's . Mine is purely used as a weekend toy , it will probs do about 150-200 mile each weekend , thats enough on a seat like it has. They aren't the most comfy bikes but ridden on the right roads are the most fun .I no longer have a road bike as once i got in to moto's i honestly felt i had the right bike for me , i sold my mille and am more than happy in only having one bike .I have used moto's in the past for commuting and found them ok , my 660 ktm wasn't ideal ( no leccy boot , kick start on left , bhaving a go on the ktm 690 will be interesting as though its billed as a supermotard its very lardy compared with the husky, its a shame i havent found one round here to have a go on

h to start when cold , b
h to keep running when cold etc etc etc ) My WR450 was great , leccy start , yamaha reliability etc ... great , others have also been ok , the road biased ones are perfect for commuting , upright position etc .Myself and 3 pals all went onto SM's at the same time , all 4 of us still have them 5 years on , 3 of us have only moto's and it's not down to the money side of things .Test drove the buell and the ktm yesterday.
The buell had a nice riding position if not a little cramped (I'm 5,9), the the ss model is meant to be slightly longer so that would sort that. I loved the sound of the engine and the front brake was very good. The whole bike was very flickable, I definitly like the upright riding position though I was less of a fan of the wind blast at higher speeds, but thats mainly becuase I'm not used to it.
The only real dissapointment was that it felt underpowered, the extra torque was nice but it'd need a lot more to keep me interested, unfortunatly they dont currently have an xb12 on test so I couldn't see if they where better.
After being slightly dissapointed with the buells performance I was expecting to really not enjoy the ktm 690 sm, but I have to say it's the most fun I've had on a bike for ages. It didn't feel under powered, infact it felt nice and punchy and thats with the standard exhaust, which apparently doesnt make the most of it.
It definitly makes you drive like a bit of a hooligan, the front wheel just wants to come up and the back when braking. I could easilly swap to a supermotard for at least a few years.
The dealer offered me a straight swap for my 7k miles cbr600rr6 and a hundred pounds to me on their 2007 ktm 690sm with 3k miles on. But i'm not sure if i'd rather sell it privately and get a 3k sm and chuck the other 1k at my debts , which would be more sensible. though that would mean being bikeless while I take mine off the road to clean the hell out of and advertise and then time taken to source a new one. I'm also slightly worried whether the few years old lc4's are as good as the new 690's
I also really like the husky sm610 as it looks a bit more sm then the new slightly lardy looking ktm's

You want a Husaberg. I've got a FS450e which is the 650's baby brother but still (to me) an animal. I can't get the throttle to the stop till I'm in 4th lol. Handling is something else completely and the brakes! I've never been able to stoppie a bike but I had the back a foot in the air after my 3rd attempt.

I did enduro's for years, my last bike was a 2 stroke Husky 250 WR.I had to pack it in as it was slowly killing me.
