Just interested to see peoples reactions to the larger charities. I make a point of giving x amount a month to a different charity and am always very careful in the same month as children in need or comic relief to give my normal and then donate to these as well as I feel smaller charities may get overlooked when there is such a hugely publicised charity event on.

I don't give any more. Partly because I'm too tight, and partly because I know someone who works very closely with one of the major large charities (rhymes with 'Cocks, man'), and apparently they like to spend a lot of the money themselves.

Paradoxically, by giving to causes like Comic Relief / Children in Need you are supporting smaller causes since CR / CiN in turn provide funding to others.

Vital sources of revenue since many smaller concerns (children's hospices and community rugby to name two that I'm personally involved with) have had all Lottery funding cut to pay for that Great White Elephant, the 2012 Olympics.

always happy to throw a fiver/tenner here and there, whether it's children in need, comic relief or even PHers doing something.

Remember, it may be you requiring the help of a charity one day...

£50 tonight after listening to Cheryl Cole - she melts my heart on her own, without "I'll stand by you..." and some poor kids.

I prefer to help other charities but have no problems with CiN. If what they say works for you, go for it.

No I do not - never know where it's gonna end up.

However, I have given a decent slice this week to a colleague who needs to raise a whole hill of cash to take her sick daughter to the US for an operation.

No disrespect intended but I'd rather give to CiN than someone on a forum with a sob story that you certainly can't verify.

We all have our own feelings and opinions on it but the feel good factor from the programme was worth it for me.

Well said.

I have donated to children in need. It's only a few quid for me, and if that can go towards helping the needy, then so much the better.

That's charities for you though mate, I regularly get letters from charities I support asking for more or to be considered in my will (i'm 24 years old!).

As soon as the letter comes in, I cancel my DD and support something else.

The donkey sanctuary have never asked for more!

So what?

If a relativley small sum to us can make a big difference to someones life for even a few days its worth it.

The charities I consistently support I give to by Direct Debit, so that is a regular income. Regrettably the practical stuff I do has to be on a spontaneous basis, but I feel bad about that, wish I could commit to a regular hour a week or whatever.

I'll still happily make a donation to an event like this, as a one off.

I'm with you Majooo, I went out with a friend of mine one night into town, wealthy young lad, his dad is in the top 50 of the Times Rich List - came across a guy asking for £3 for the YMCA, he called up a local hotel and booked him into a room on his credit card.

He said he felt better knowing he was getting his head down and a nice breakfast rather than adding that £3 to what he already had and him buying some ale with it.

I wish I had more money to help people.

I never donate to childern in need. Not because i don't want to , but i have no idea where that money is going or will end up.

I always donate to my local Air Ambulance as it's run by volunteer's , Help for heroes , Vulcan to the sky and the PDSA.

My donation to the the Ensman's Christmas Toy Lander will go a lot further than some BS charity gala for some crack head in croydon.
