I too gave that to Vera, but hey, judges see what they want. Agree with most of that, and just to add that Gustafsson looked pretty solid, that was one hell of a straight right. Bisping's defense on his back was fantastic, Kang looked very dangerous. Didn't see the Osipczak fight, would like to catch that.
The Vera v Randy fight shows why rings are better than cages. Leaning someone against the fence should not win you the fight.

Kang keeps on losing fights he should win. He rocks Bisping loads and doesn't follow up straight away, I mean, who drops someone then jumps into their guard? You can do that if you have the gnp of Fedor, otherwise it's a bad idea.

Finally plussed the Strikeforce thing. Not seen the ME yet but watched Silva v Werdum, this was ace. Silva is a funny looking hvyweight, doesn't look his 263 but I liked his style. Was a god match and am glad Bravo has now got Strikeforce. Though it was al over in the first round but Silva backed off, and I got to see what Werdum could do. Two ace hvyweights there.

Finally watched it. Wow, it was great, that punch was perfect, it was almost a straight line from hius ankle to his fist.
Does Bret have a good chin? We wouldn't know from that punch because like the presenter said, it would have felled a rhino.

Bought Fighters Only. Has a good article on the new heavyweights. Mentions that A. Silva has acromegaly. No wonder I thought he had unusual dimensions. Probably has wrists and ankles like steel poles.

Listed the current top four superheavys as Lesnar, Bigfoot, Bret and Carwin.

Well they're obviously wrong.

For lulz, check the name of the site the Sapp pic is hosted on.

If true, wonder if it's just natural (bad) luck of the draw, or reflects use of growth hormone?

Acromegaly is regarded as a well known and common side effect of excessive GH use in weightlifting/bodybuilding circles. Though what good it would do a fighter, comapred to the more 'run-of-the-mill' steroids/ performance enhancers god knows?

It did look brilliant - he seems able to pull it out of the bag when needed, like with Arlovski.

Got me wondering who people think is the hardest hitter in MMA?

Maybe folk could suggest their picks, possibly (a) outright and (b) pound for pound?

Not heard that but he did look good against Fedor, very crisp acurate punching, until he got (very) unlucky trying the knee and opened up the legendary death blow!

But . . punching like that in MMA (looking good etc.) and doing it against a boxer when the latter doesn't have to worry about takedowns, kicks, changing stance etc. is very different.

Just compare the hand work of the better boxers against even the best MMA fighters - just doesn't match up.

Possibly more interesting is the interview with David Haye a year or so again. he said he intended to win the HW championship , defend a few times and then go to MMA which he has an interest in. Reckoned he'd been training with MMA fighters for a while and had been trying to better his 'hit' rate against attempted takedowns. Said he had been 'got' more times than not for the 1st couple of years from what I remember, but had gotten to the point where he'd land on c. 8 out of 10 attempted takedowns now.

Don't know how seriously this was being done or the quality of the fighters but just the fact that he is interested enough to talk about it like this is intriguing. Doubt it will ever happen but would love to see it!

(a) Fedor has got to be in there, Mark Hunt, Ray Seffo (only had a few MMA fights though), maybe Overeem.
(b)I'm nominating Paul Daley and Melvin Manhoef for that list.

If you rewatch that fight he wasn't landing many of his punches.

I'll cheat a bit and say Ray Mercer (in his prime, not in his MMA career). Still got more than enough for Tim Sylvia

If I think about punchers only for now and can include fighters from the past who have (or maybe?) retired I'd add

Bas Rutten (knocked out/shook up several guys with palm strikes!)

Chuck Lidell

Rampage Jackson (much as I despise the prat - he does seem to hit hard with either hand)

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson

Plus the Silvas (Anderson and Thiago)

Lyoto Machida.

The interesting thing about Anderson and Lyoto is that the punches often don't look to be too hard or spectacular but drop people with good chins who've previously taken hits from reputedly big punchers OK. The way Silva did over Forrest Griffin and Chris Leben hurting them with jabs and short straight shots makes me think there must be some dynamite in his hands.

Arlovski was going to make his pro boxing debut but has decided to focus on mma apparently.

One of the hardest hitters in mma is Dan Hardy! I think Aleks is probably a marginally harder hitter than Fedor though, Fedor is just better at finding the target!

yeah ,i agree it`s totally different.i think mma requires a more back foot bias weight distribution to allow for kicking which in turn leads to a more lean back type of defence than the slips blocks and rolls of boxing.you can see that type of defence still in vitali klitschko because of his kickboxing background.
apparently enzo maccarinelli has been dabbling in mma as well and has actually had some extended dialoge with dana white about a possible futre in the sport.
haye certainly has got the physique for mma!

Re. Anthony Johnson, might have the chance to see again how devastating he is against Koschek tonight.

Thinking about it, though wild, when he connects with his elongated overhand shots Koschek has developed a fair bit of power too. Can't see him living with Johnson though . . !?

I haven't really seen much of AJ but I know there is a lot of hype around him. Looking at his record he hasn't really fought anybody though so it will be interesting to watch him against a legitimate contender in Koscheck.

Mmmn . . disappointed.

He did tag Koschek a couple of times but he does need a better ground game, despite his wrestling background, if he's going to live up to his aim of being the best ever! He didn't seem to make the most of his advantages really, too tentative.

Just hope this doesn't derail his career as I love watching him fight. Actually, though I can't stand Koschek I do like watching him too! Interesting to see his calling out of Dan Hardy at ringside. Hopefully they'll meet soon
