Who said anything about frequency / number of times a week ?
You said it yourself - they don't train 5 days a week - but on the days they do get together they train - therefore Football is a sport.
Conversely you could go and practice Snooker 7 days a week but it is still a game.
What about football teams that don't train (my 5-a-side team has never had a training session in 10 years) playing another team that does? What are they playing, a sport or a game?

Of course cricket is a sport - at whatever level it's played.

You'll be telling me darts isn't a sport next!

Golf is a game, no a sport.
It is a sport.
No it's not it's a game.

If you train for it it's a sport.

If you practice for it it's a game.
So working out in the gym which 95% of professional golfers do now doesnt qualify as training? Or spending hours on the range training your body and muscle memory for a swing change? It's more than practicing. It's widely known that Tiger Woods is one of the best athlete's on the planet. I'll admit, before he came on the scene in 1997 golfers were nowhere near as fit, strong etc but not anymore.

OK granted the top few professionals might train so for them it might qualify as a sport but for the other 98% of players it is a game.

Likewise for Cricket - the top few professionals doubtless train for their matches, but for your average village or pub team player, a quick practice knock in the nets on a Tuesday night does not qualify as training.

What are you talking about?? Your local 5-a-side team doesn't train 5 days a week so footballs not a sport?

You're still not making much sense. Please can you define what makes something a sport?

Nope, it's not just the top few professionals that train and work out. Almost every professional tour player does. Trust mesmile

And even if you are an amatuer weekly player, walking 3-4 miles lugging a bag of clubs on your back is very good fitness. I'd hardly say it's a gamesmile

Just playing devil's advocate for a moment -

If the manifesatation of the activity is described as a match, then its a sport.

If it's described as a game (e.g. golf, darts) , round (e.g golf), frame (e.g. snooker), then it not a sport?

But back to topic, Henry is a dishonest cheating . For anyone to effectively suggest that the infraction didn't stand as such as it wasn't seen by the referee is absurd. If that were the case, anything occuring on the pitch not witnessed by the officials is hence allowable. If video evidence can be used to retrospectively to penalise players for off the ball incidents or even things like the Eduardo dive then it should also be used to deal with this kind of thing. Henry's sharp footballing mind works so quickly that I have no doubt that after the first touch he knew exactly what he intended to do (i.e. 2nd touch was not reflex) and so in my opinion his actions and their outcome were premditated after that first touch.

So:-
Match play golf = sport
Stroke play golf = game

"There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games." -Ernest Hemingway

Although I do wonder if shooting oneself in the head is a sport...

On Henry, celebrating was OTT, but at least he admitted it was a foul and said a replay would be fair. I don't know that you can place all the blame on him, it's the systemic flaws that really need to be addressed. A sad day for Ireland and football, but not the first time (nor will it be the last) that a deserving team is robbed, so you can understand the FFF's logic in denying a replay, however unjust it is.
