I'd never heard of this. And the trailer was a bit meh.

I fear an Eco message from the footage though.

Looks very "busy".

My poor brain would probably explode trying to take in all the action.

Apparently you have to see it in 3d cinema (such as IMAX) to get the full benefit. Which will be a pain as there are not many theatres capable of running it. Did a little search on the net and found 7 nationwide. So normal 2d it will be for most folks. Which is a shame as you will miss a lot of the visualisations that Mr Cameron is trying to get the punter involved in.
I did hear it is about £80k to upgrade existing cinema equipment. But can't see them doing that for 1 film.

I like this sort of movie anyway, so will look forward to seeing it.
I’m sure the trailer has only scratched the surface, the director is a shrewd character about what he releases.

I don't know, I went to the cinema this weekend, the amount of films that are now trailered 'to be shown in 3D' (including the new Pixar release Up) and the amount of posters advertising 3D films 'in this cinema', one would presume that 3D is the way to go and that cinemas that don't upgrade will be very quiet!

From the trailer, the story comes accross to me as...

... "The Last Samurai In Space"

Anyone else?

From what I understand, there's old 3D and this new 3D technology their pushing.
Old school 3D is dead and this new stuff is being heralded as the greatest step in cinema since colour.
I've not seen a 3D movie for a few years, but according to the news, all cinema's are upgrading to this new 3D in the next 2 years.

We'll see...

Yeah, it's IMAXs that there are only 7 of, but there are a LOT more with the necessary 3D stuff.

This month's Empire has a good feature on Avatar. But whilst I generally agree with their reviews and enjoy the magazine, they do tend to felate Mr Cameron a bit.

I'll live with the 2d image, Imax 3d tickets are almost three times the price of regular cinema and after seeing transformers revenge of the explosions in Imax I'll never waste the money again. Admittedly the forest scene was stunning in super hi res and on a 40ft tall screen...

Saw 'UP' in 3d recently, quite clever the technology they use, something to do with polarised glasses, so both your eyes see perfect colour images. Although it does seem a bit weird at first as your eyes sometimes try to focus on things that they can't (because the screen is still 2d) but you get used to it.

Sadly I've no idea where my nearest IMAX is - I suspect living in West Sussex it may be as far away as Bournemouth.

Just to repeat myself wink

Requisite 3D kit does not necessitate an IMAX. There are plenty of screens around the country with the right gear.

Just to stir this up again but I have just seen the latest trailer and I thinks it looks fekin' awesome but then so did 2012 from it's trailer.

I think I will have to see it in 3D and 2D as those glasses make the screen look too dark and I personally think that it ruined Up, Bolt etc as you lost a lot of the brilliance and colour.

I thought it looked like the battle of endor in blue. I downloaded some exclusive footage on the xbox and thought it looked a bit rubbish, very much the new star wars rather than the old.

I agree on how dark the screen looks with those glasses.

I went to see "A christmas carol' the other day in 3D which was quite good (using the polarised glasses. Before it came on, the trailer for Avatar came on in 3D, it looked fantastic. There was also the trailer for Tim burtons Alice and Wonderland in 3D that looked brilliant also.

Yep - all they need is a digital projector which is the way many are moving now. It will be a shame to see the old analogue projectors go though (along with the projectionists, sadly).

I think the CGI looks fantastic, the facial animation in particular.

Looking forward to seeing it.
