I think I'll find it easier to shift a tidy little MX5 come the spring though.
Get front bumper repainted for a few hundred when you can. Jobs a carrot.

60,000 miles
full service history
MOT til end of november
TAX til end of december
immobiliser
stereo
standard alloy wheels with pirelli p6000 tyres
front bumper has faded slightly due to age, i polished it up with autoglym and it came back to bright red but a month later it faded back!
hood in good condition
hardtop in good condition, couple of spots in middle of roof thats been touched up, no bigger than a 50 pence piece.
everything works perfectly, fantastic car to drive. very good example and low mileage for age, this car is 15 years old! i bought this for the summer and i have to sell it to raise funds for a mini project.
open to offers, anything below 2k i wont include the hardtop. i will put an MOT on it if i get the asking price.
hard top alone is worth 3-500.

PMSL at the reason for sale of that rover in the OP's first post....
The car sounds very appealing. Perhaps a viewing is in order

I bought a Mk III Golf GTI 8v for £750 and even after doing things that need doing, I'm confident I can get my money back. It's not fast but it is fun and eminently hurlable and nicely compact. I also think that the GTI badge still gives you a smidge of street cred. A 16v would be even better...for the right money and I've seen a few on ebay.
Mk3s are for homo's.Mk2s are where it's at.

I wouldnt go near the ZS
can I ask why? And is it based on any real world experience?I ask because on the net and specifically PH there's a lot BS about Rover products that I can't agree with based on my own experience. As a family we've had a lot of Rover products, I would estimate in the region of 30 or 40 over the years including an MG ZS180. On the whole they have been very very good and little trouble. The ZS was owned by my brother and it never put a foot wrong. Not a single thing bar a battery in the keyfob remote.
It was also very good to drive as good as a BRM nut a bit more agressive. This making it the joint best fwd car I've driven this side of a DC2 ITR. The V6 made a nice noise, was grunty but still happy to rev. It was fairly quick matching the perfoance stats of an Accord Type R fairly good on fuel and practical too. The recaro front seats where very supportive and comfy. On top of that servicing cost about the same as a bag of peanuts.
but seriously I think they were much better cars than given credit for. Sure they had their share of problems but I'm not convinced other cars don't too. When my brother had his BRM my house mate had a MK iv Golf GTI. The Golf was slightly newer but was no more practical rode worse, didn't handle as well, lower spec, much slower, very dull, worse mpg, drank oil like it was going out of fashion and over the same period of time requred far more work done on it. I know this is only one example buts it's not the only one I've come across. But ho hum each to our own.

Interesting you should pick a Golf VR6. I bought mine in November 2006 for £2600, ran it for 3 years and 20,000 miles (to 98,000 miles) and have just sold it for £2250. Amazing sounding engine with an enclosed induction kit and proper exhaust... and probably one of the best built VWs of all time IMHO <awaits flaming>
Undoubtably though, the ubiquitous MX-5 answer is probably bang on this time...

I bought a mk 3 Golf GTI 8v for 600 quid, Ive done 5000 miles in it, and I will easy get my money back.
I would look at a MK2 CRX, or a MK1 MR2 for fun though.
Which one is the Mk2 CRX? Does it have the horizontal back to it? Like it's been chopped off?I would look at a MK2 CRX, or a MK1 MR2 for fun though.
