Wow - the Aco are getting efficient. Emailed them with request for 4x maison blanche, entry and paddock and got the allocation in the post this morning.

Mind you - seems to get earlier and earlier for each classic. Booked in Jan for 2008.

Full information is here and most questions will be answered by it:

www.lemansclassic.com

Includes ticket prices for general entrance, grandstands, paddock, parking and camping, as well as the dress code!

Also includes provisional grid starting times for all the different classes.

The ticket ordering process is there too.

Yep, spotted that this had been changed from 'coming soon' to 'download booking form' so got that sorted today. They've only got MB and BN as available camping so fingers crossed this is what we get allocated and not stuck out at BSJ.

Vette, comparatively few have camped in the past for the Classic; certainly not enough to fill BN and MB for sure. I think you can rest assured that you will be in the right place. BSJ wasn't even opened last year IIRC. If by any chance they go further it'll be Bleu Sud and Houx Annexe that would take the strain anyway.

Last went in 2006 with friends, missed out in 2008 so have just booked up for next year. 9 of us in 4 cars staying with Speed Chills.

Here are a couple of pics from '06:

Beausejour was open in 2008, and was a great place to be, good viewing from Porsche curves, easy access to Mulsanne and Arnage as well as the village. The buses which run for the main event weren't operating, but not too much problem. The main issue we had was that the showers were too hot - you couldn't stand under them, it made quite a change from the main event as you rarely get anything but cold then. I guess there just weren't enough people to use up the hot! Some reasonable cars on the field too:

But overall it was pretty quiet:

That works out pretty well. Spend Friday enjoying the practices and getting all the pics I want, then enjoy the first round of races, get to bed, up at 3am, watch some more, and then head for Caen at about 10am Sunday.

As On one thread here a youngster was talking about holding his stag weekend during the Classic and was talking about water pistols, fireworks, zillion watt stereos in the camp site and so on. I just don't want to be a part of that and probably will in the end drop out completely. Next year, after being a member of the GSA, the club that got the Revival up and going and having been to every Revival (including, let me hasten to add, being royally treated there this year when I was invited with the C-type) I may well go back to Angouleme for quieter days, for a bit of fun, for a moment spent with friends not with 100,000 others getting drunker and drunker and behaving badly, should that come to pass here.
I believe that was a wind up by the person who posted it.

I don't think it will ever turn into an event like the regular LM. There are too many people who want it to stay as it is. Chavs also seem to be instantly put off by the word 'classic'. The Festival of Speed and Revival still maintain the same standards so why shouldn't the LM Classic?

As for the dress code I don't think it should be too stuffy. I wore shorts and T shirts last year and went wherever I wanted to without problem. If its hot who wants to be stuck in a shirt and trousers all day?
Agreed shorts and shirt were OK last few years. I also think the fact there are far fewer bars contributes to a more relaxed atmosphere. I haven't been to the 24 hours for 3 years now and won't be going again, however I have already booked my hotel and ferry for the Classic and am really looking forward to it. Just need to get in-field parking with the (French) AMOC and some parade laps sorted. smile

We are on the same boat. Four C Type replicas. You should hear the rolling thunder about ten minutes before we arrive.

Freddie, look forward to hearing from you. Looking forward to a good weekend! Predictions are for 100,000 this time around so plenty of cars to see and hear - not just on the track but all around.

How does 100,000 compare to the main Le Mans event?

Last year, over 250,000 at the 24 hours which is a lot more than the Classic. But the Classic is growing enormously; 30,000 in 2002, 50,000 in 2004, 70,000 in 2006 and 82,000 last year. Hotels are getting difficult to find since the average age is older and they have more money so hotels are well booked from Alencon to Tours. Try the Tourist Agency at Le Mans - they speak english - if you are looking for accomodation.

Very much looking forward to it. We will be fitting a camera to one of the Jags. Should be a hoot. See you in July.

Following on from lowdrag's post above, I've been to all Le Classics from 2004 and well recall how easy things were in the past, and also how the numbers of attendees have increased since then. I have to say that over 100,000 and I think the entire event will change in character, for the worse, unfortunatly. So far it's been quite easy to access everything, chat to the entrants and mechanics etc in the paddock, and get to all the bars and vantage points. This will only become more difficult in future, I feel. I'm already having to stay 30 miles away from the circuit (we don't camp). ACO will inevitably allow the number of attendees to grow: whether they keep the current feel for the event or just let it get increasingly crowded and difficult to enjoy in its traditional way remains doubtful. Perhaps the Silverstone equivalent is the way to go now, maybe.

Off topic, but as far as Silverstone is concerned I actually prefer it to the Le Mans Classic because I can get around and do a lot of photography from different points quite easily. In 2008 they even lent us press boys bikes to get around on! However, as far as Silverstone this year was concerned, there was one glaring and insurmountable problem - one I've never seen before even back in the Coys days, so we ought to get up a petition:-
