Pictures of decently Modified cars

I think the Mods can close this thread now.
It has degenerated into pictures of cars who's only visible modification is a different set of halfords alloys and a chavvy exhaust.

A modified car doesnt have to have massive bodywork etc. A modified car can jsut be a normal car with a nice set of rims & lowered. Its all down to taste. It has degenerated into pictures of cars who's only visible modification is a different set of halfords alloys and a chavvy exhaust.

Any twit can change alloys and an exhaust, even Halfords.
If people want to post pictures (which was the point of the thread as stated in the title) of cars with less visible mods, why not give a spec list or pics of the engine bay etc?

Good idea. I'll start then. Corrado VR6
- Schrick 268° cams.
- high compression metal head gasket.
- Schrick VGI (Variable Geometry Intake) dual-tract inlet manifold.
- Gas-flowed enlarged throttle body.
- Fidanza lightened flywheel.
- Custom engine remap to Super Unleaded and a raised rev limit.
- Mocal oil cooler
- Vibratechnics front engine mount.
- Custom Gaz Gold 2-way adjustable coil-over suspension.
- New front wishbones and track end rods.
- Vibratechnics front wishbone bushes.
- a 3.68 final drive to lower the gearing and improve acceleration.
- 288mm front brake upgrade with Golf Mk3 callipers, Brembo discs, Mintex pads and Goodrich braided hoses.
- Milltek sports exhaust
- 2 sets of original alloys, one refurbished in gun metal with road tyres and the other in matte black with Toyo R888 track tyres

FB1 Race-Taxi - 520bhp porsche powered VW Camper.

I'd say it's decently modified
Video of it against a GT3 and a Aston Martin...

I posted my car earlier in the thread but it's come a way since then.
While not extensively modified in the grand scheme of things (no giant V8 swap, no 25" rims, no full carbonfibre body.), it's all been done "right" (in my opinion anyway).
Started with this:

Which started to make funny noises:

So took the opportunity to tidy it up a bit over the winter while I investigated.
I stripped it back to this:

Basically took to pretty much every nut, component etc. with the aim of refurbishing to as-new or better than new:

Stripped the engine back:

Decided to rebuild and chase some extra power with some shiny new bits:

Then set about screwing it all together:

Decided to redesign/remanufacture a few bits along the way:

Then decided to add a 6th gear and an LSD into the equation:

(which of course needs a custom-made gearknob badge)

Which brings me to where I'm at now... still going!

The above is only a glimpse of what's been done, if anyone's got a spare couple of hours then you can follow the saga to date here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Was originally meant to take about 6 months, but it's been going 2 years now. Pretty much most of it (bar the engine machining work) has been done by me, in my garage with very little other than patience and a will to give it a go. All been done on a relatively limited budget too... sometimes months have passed with me just chipping away at it while I saved for the next chunk of work. Hopefully now only a couple of months away from firing her up for the first time

Looks like a pretty epic rebuild. While not extensively modified in the grand scheme of things (no giant V8 swap, no 25" rims, no full carbonfibre body.), it's all been done "right" (in my opinion anyway).
One question though - given your obvious level of mechanical ability, why are you not building an Ultima from kit rather than taking an Elise completely apart and putting it back together again?

I've been passionate about Lotus since I was 4 years old, I grew up with a photo of my father's old Type 14 on my wall. I appreciated the Elise when it came out but always wanted an Exige with every inch of my being when it came out in 2000. I got an Elise at 25 and then worked my way up to the Exige at 27.One question though - given your obvious level of mechanical ability, why are you not building an Ultima from kit rather than taking an Elise completely apart and putting it back together again?

No reason I couldn't build an Ultima (or any number of kit cars), but they just don't float my boat. I like elegantly designed things... innovative, minimalist things and to me the Ultima doesn't fit that mould. I'd be much more inclined to do something like a Juno if I wanted something really serious.... but that's all academic. I can only afford to do my Lotus right now... talk to me again in 6 years when I've more garage space and the impetus to take on another project
