I need a couple of new track rod ends. I can get them from Clevor Trev etc... but paying £8-9 quid for delivery is a bit sad when the part is only £11.

Is there a non TVR alternative that can be ordered from a local motor factor that's an exact fit?

Cheers

Gents. Thanks. I need to definitely know which one though as I will get charged for ordering in a wrong part.

Cheers

Mine came from a well known TVR supplier, were in a box marked up for MKII Escort.. but they may be different if you have a non PAS rack?

Spend, sorry (everyone can laugh here) but what's IIRC and what do you mean by cranked?

IIRC = if I recall correctly

Track rod ends on my Chimaera (power steering) and S3 (not power steering) are "straight" i.e. the cast body of it is straight between the threaded bit that screws on the rack and the ball joint end, some track rod ends have a distinct "crank" of "kink" making the ball bit lower than the threaded bit.
CAM (clear as mud)

finally, find a better motor factor who will let you compare with your old part before buying !!

Ah hah. I feel fully enlightened in the acronym world, thank you. Mine are straight not cranked and I have PAS if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Point is/was.. there were reports of ph'ers ordering the same part numbers and some came straight, then some came cranked... not sure if we ever got to the bottom of it TBH?

Personally never had a problem, it was all straightforward hehe used Lockheed AP part No TA687

I think I know what you mean ..... but I don't think you can directly link it to use. I replaced mine and they looked like hell within a year, all rusted up. In fact the corrosion was worse than the old ones I took off. They were supplied from a well known TVR parts place. Does anyone know of a source that has better protection?

From my experience they are usually supplied unprotected or painted and if you did find some that are painted or plated it would probably be poor quality, just enough to stop them corroding in the box !

Far better (IMHO) to get a coat or two of "Smoothrite" on once they are fitted and tracking adjusted.

I had an issue on my Griff where I ordered 2 x straight TRE's after finding the offside one needed replacing, and when I came to fit them I found the offside was straight and the nearside was cranked.
It didn't matter to me as I was having the geometry done immediately after they were fitted anyway, but to be honest I couldn't see any reason for them to be different.

Well i've got some QH track rod ends for £7.01 each (Cortina mk3/4 as recommended) from a local parts supplier.

No postage and 2-3 quid cheaper, so as long as they fit all will be cool.

Will update when done.

Cheers for the help so far.
