Read a lot on this subject when I was replacing my Slave Seals.
I drained 2 litres of Gearbox oil before I removed it and replaced the same amount but to do that I had to have the driver's side higher.
No leaks since I put it all back together.

I used Castrol Driveline Syntrax universal oil for the refill as a few people had mentioned 5th gear going u/s with ATF.

Not sure how the SP6 cars compare with the V8's in terms of access to the plugs but reading the threads they are comparable....ie APITA!

Its a bit complicated but there are some useful drgs that show where everything is. Agree with the notion that it sounds like something to do with overfilling and pressure increase due to heat/expansion...otherwise it would leak all the time right...? Only thing that I'm not sure about is that the breather is on top of the box...whilst you might expect a splash or two if it was overfilled, not sure you would get the amount of oil you are talking about...?

Only way to find out is to get your hands dirty (and everything else) by getting under the car!

Make you can get the filler plug out before you remove the drain plug!

Just thought I'd update this thread.

Well just had it to my garage, 3 mechanics, all instantly said it was gearbox oil.

We removed the oil from master cylinder, looks nothing like it.

Next removed fill level plug, about 100ml drained out, quite a bit considering how much will have drained already from a few hundred mile journey and what I hadn't caught.

So next thing is to get a report from GB Lubricants who are going to get the oil analysed.

In the mean time I hope I will be able to get the box repaired as there is a chap interested in buying my little beastie.

Glad your getting it sorted. If you have drained the box down to the fill level...and its now where it should be...have you driven it to see if it still leaks when its hot?

Yes I've driven it and the oil is still leaking though a hell of a lot less than before, going to take it on a proper long trip tomorrow to see what happens.

Didn't have it out because it was lashing down with rain yesterday.

There is definitely a rabbit off, going to get the oils analysed tomorrow and a report written up about the work carried out then claiming for the whole job off the company. What a pain in the arse this is turning out to be.
