My routine:

Go to underground car park.

Notice absence of frost/ice.

Get in car.

Drive to work.

Turn on
Set controls to windscreen/full fan/aircon on
Go inside
Boil kettle
Make coffee
Drink coffee
Go to car and drive off.
There have been many instances of cars being stolen whilst this method is used, one not too long ago the owner was actually run over and dragged down the road, she is now paralised I believe.
While she was drinking coffee in the house? Bizarre.
No, between the coffee drinking and driving off.

Not on a windscreen it doesn't!

You're thinking of ice cube trays, where convection can play a part.

As for boiling water - I've done this on almost every car I've owned, and never had a problem.
Tried cold water this morning instead of warm, went from a bit of ice at the bottom of the screen to a sheet of solid ice across the entire screen! rolleyes

I will stick with the 2ltr bottle of warm water from the tap, always worked for me thumbup

Me too this morning was a proper hard frost, and as I poured my 2L bottle of warm water over the screens I wondered about that post about using cold instead of warm, I just couldnt beleive that would be better than using luke warm and sure enough now confirmed by Petrol-R.

Really, do you need to post on the internet how to de-frost a bloody car??? Next, there'll be a topic asking "how do I wipe my arse?"

Just start the car & let it idle for a few minutes with the heater on full blast. Failing that, a credit card makes a perfect ice scraper.

But warm water does it a lot quicker than your two options above so sounds like even you might learn something hehe

....and i'm not talking about wiping your arse................but whatever floats ya boatwink

Open car
Start Engine
Fan on full heat towards windows
Rear window heater thing ON
Open driver side window and then close door (in case of autolocks)
Light up fag
Smoke fag whilst scrapping ice off
My preferred option as well

There's no getting away from how stupid people can be is there?

I saw my neighbour removing deep snow from their very nice, almost new audi cabriolet with the following items;

A tennis racket and cd covers to remove the snow (this was not just the windows this was across painted panels as well).

Then credit card and cd cover to scrape a very small gap in the screen.

Then wipers on (screen still mainy iced over)

And off they went. In a nicely scratched car with about 20% visibilty.

Get up.

Spend half an hour empting every kitchen cupboard looking for de-icer and scrapper, only to find it locked in other half’s car (currently tucked up snugly in bed).

Late for work resulting in bad day at the office.

Fan heater + extension lead is the way forward. Leaving the car running is not very mechanically sympathetic and leads to stolen cars.

Do people still use ice scrapers and deicer? I thought the norm was warm water.
