Most miles I've ever got out of a tank is 375 miles and that was with 95% Motorway. Usually I get 300 - 320 around town.

So i get around 20 - 25mpg in town 25 - 30 mpg on the motorway.

I've managed 431 miles in the MINI, mostly on the motorway needless to say. Put 49.4L into the 50L tank as well! Normal range is about 280 miles but as I'm not using the car for work at the mo I'm only having to fill up every month or so - not looking forward to August when I'll be doing a 60 mile round trip for 6 months with the current prices.

Most we have got from SWMBO's 116d is 562 miles but going by the OBC's estimate over miles of 50mph limit on the A1 last week over 600 would be possible if I could bring myself to dawdle along at 50.

Typical range in the Bristol is about 230-240. Worst is about 180, and I once nudged 300miles, driving like an old lady. 82 litre tank, usually fill 70-75l or so.

My range is about 220 miles... I get about 28mpg and I think my tank is about 40 litres... It means I brim it once a week from about half a tank.

I never understood why people only put £10 in... surely you're gonna use that in a day or 2 and you'll be back in there putting another £10 in!

I guess you then have the brigade of people saying "what's the point in carrying around 40 litres of petrol" which isn't a bad argument now I think about it!

Top Gear Magazine now includes 'range' as one of the data points in the new car section at the back.
2nd - BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics at 925 miles
I have 320d Efficient Dynamics and I get 630 miles
I thought that sounded hopelessly optomistic.

My Audi 80 1.9Tdi would get 600 miles to a tank (65l tank).
The Skoda Fabia 1.4 Tdi would do 650 miles between fill ups from a 45 - litre tank - seriously impressive range/economy.

The 328i does about 400 miles from 65 litres! Fun though....
I think that getting close to the official mpg is optimistic for most people.
my Fabia got the closest with 55mpg against combined of 57.5mpg.
current Seat gets 47.1 instead of combined of 52 ish..
As an experiment I tried to see what I could get out of a tank on my 320 ed company car. The result, 800 miles. That was a mix of motorway and town stuff. Just not booting it to the red line all the time, and changing gear when it says.

Usually get 650 'ish in company fuel card mode.

I think it’s a matter of budgeting and psychology.

If you are on a tight budget often you may be waiting for the next pay to reach your account so just put in what you need. Also, I find I drive more carefully when I have maybe a quarter of a tank left. When I brim the car I tend not to bother keeping a check on how economically I am driving because I have plenty of fuel left.
i am totally the opposite for some reason.....driving like a saint as i have just brimmed it and don't want to use it and burning it ridiculously quickly when i don't have much left, i get nearing 190 miles from the first half but then struggle to get 300 from the whole thing in the 335i

70 litre tank

edit to add = I have done that myself in it.

Should have kept going - I've covered about 130 miles on the fuel light! Somewhere between 875 and 900 miles on a tank almost all at c. 70mph with light traffic, little bit of town driving mixed in.

The 172 gives me about 350 miles out of a full tank, and shows 36mpg,where as my company diesel will do 500 miles at least, its a 55ltr tank and the mpg range averages 54mpg with my normal no hanging about driving.

about 180-200 miles from brim to fuel light with a 60lt driving normally day to day, on a motorway I can stretch it to over 300 but it does get awfully dull

My Citroen ZX diesel can achieve 420 miles before the light comes on, my calculations say about lower 50's mpg.
On a good long run I can get about 55-58 about 450 miles, but I haven't done that for a while. tongue out

VX220 2.2 I use it as my daily driver with mixed A & B county roads and a few miles of city crawl. My fuel gauge is hopeless as I don't have the standard fuel tank fitted (48litre instead of 38litre). I tend to fill it when "refill" has been on for about 30 miles and I tend to get 38litres in having done ~250miles so 30mpg. I could push my luck and assume i'm doing 30mpg and try and get 310 miles, would be embarrasing running it out though...

A6 2.7T Quattro Auto,.. never got more than 320miles out of it; 70 litres.. 21mpg frown

I always fill to the brim, although I'm lucky if either of my cars make 400 miles from a tank.

My all time record is 580miles from a Corrado with a 70 litre tank, equates to around 38mpg.
