So should PG close his company and move abroad then? Make thousands of people redundant, close distribution warehouses, terminate leases on shops, etc etc. Of course this will stop him shoving £266m tax free away into an off shore account (can you actually proove that anyway).
I am not a Tory boy thankyou.
I shall try again. You know all those people employed by Top Shop, all those people whom have NI and income tax deducted from wages that PG passes onto the government, are you really saying you would prefer not to have someone like PG building businesses and keeping people in employment? All those people that after tax spend money in the economy, put fuel in cars, buy food, clothing and other stuff, put them on the dole.
£266m is a drop in the ocean if true. I think he deserves every penny for his achievements. The money he has poured into UK coffers over the years must be Millions if not Billions.
Thousands of companies supply the distribution chain, i am one of them. How is that taking the pee out of me? I do very well out of it thanks.
You are so short sighted crankedown or you just come on here to wind people up. You have failed. Again.
What does Bob Crow offer in comparison 'mate' ?
Lets go back to the beginning, all I am saying is that people like crow are just as morally deficient as people like green. The Government is always looking for ways to cut down loopholes to stop the likes of green taking cash out of the U.K. Sooner the better and I am sick to the back teeth of people saying 'how he employs people who then pay tax blah blah blah. The fact is he makes huge profit and uses every legal trick in the book to avoid paying his tax bill. You find that fine and I don't, I find what crow does fine, you don't. What does Bob Crow do you ask, his an out of date Union Chief, to this debate thats irrelevant. Do I come on here to wind people up you ask, nope, but I do express my opinion which is what this forum is here for, its just that my opinion is not in line with Tory thinking. Do I care about that, nope.I am not a Tory boy thankyou.

You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that Philip Green is at all embarrassed by his wealth. He isn't. Bob Crowe, however, lives in a council-funded property while pocketing a decent wage. He is a hypocrite.
It amazes me that people think that rich people should pay more than they already do. Philip Green pays a s
tload of tax, more than you could possibly imagine. If anything, he should be paying less. This country shouldn't be spending so much money on a bloated crap inefficient public sector.

Let me tell you a little story....
A chap I know extremely well started out life with sod all. Has made a fortune to the tune of at least hundreds of millions, possibly low billions depending on the valuation of his shares. He employs thousands of people around the world and due to the nature of his main businesses some of those have to be employed in certain areas. However, his company does not have to be based anywhere in particular. He uprooted to Monaco personally when he married a girl from Monaco in the 80's and he moved his business operations to the US I think in the late 70's due to the tax regime here. Since then, he has employed thousands of people in the US and paid literally billions of taxes there as oppose to here. Quite simply, high taxes lost this country his skills, his cash, his taxes and several thousand jobs. Granted Phillip Green cant easily relocate the main business but the simple fact of the matter is he has done nothing illegal, still pays a shed load of taxes, employed a vast army of people and is therefore economically of benefit to the country. He also does not and never has claimed some kind of political agenda. He is a long way from the only person who has left the UK and taken their skills, taxes and jobs to the US or other more competitive environments, to our loss and their gain. To expect someone to do otherwise is utterly unrealistic and if I was in his position I would have done exactly the same thing - except marrying his wife, mainly as she is 20 years older than me, but her daughter is hot ;-)
The delightful Mr Crow on the other hand, claims to be a good socialist. I may not agree with Socialism but hey, each to his own. Problem is if you make a career based on that to exploit the system and remove a house from the pool of available housing for those with a real need for assistance is simply beneath contempt. To give old Bob his credit though, I do enjoy when he crops up in debates, interviews etc - awesome entertainment value!

Your Max Bygraves 'I wanna tell you a story' misses out one point about the guy who left because of high taxes. His business?
I couldn't care less about Crow, but I couldn't care less about people who leave these shores either!
There are thousands upon thousands of 'tiny' businesses who are just as much the backbone of this country, and their owners don't up and leave.
This dreadful land where foreigners now queue up to take, own and run businesses on these shores. I wonder why?
Why doesn't he come back, there's a Tory Government back who supposedly favour the rich... ahh, but then you said he left in the late 70s. I remember a Tory woman becoming PM in the late 70s... what can you conclude from that?
The problem with these threads are it's either one or t'other. Right v Left. No give no take.
However, the 'kill' Crow brigade above, f him this, f him that, need to 'crow' up.
Actually, if I was the guy in question, I wouldn't want to come back. He wouldn't recognise this country now.
He does not come back as he simply has no desire, no reason, is semi retired and get great tax breaks living between Monaco and the US!
He left as a direct result of the Labour Governments tax policies. He did make a couple of significant investments here in Thatchers day but by that stage he was not going to relocate again. It is irrelevant though if one agrees or disagrees with his actions and equally irrelevant that there are loads of small, very successful companies that employ lots of people between them here. The simple fact is that the US government has received billions in taxes from him, his companies and staff and his UK interests are all owned and run externally, or at least were, I think he may have sold them now.
The critical issue it that rather than the UK benefiting from him and him contributing to the country of his birth, which he still retains huge affection for, he walked out due to the taxation policy of the then Government. The UK is an attractive place compared to many and the whole point is that the idiots who complain about people such as PG simply don't get that reality of the situation - we need these kind of people and need to encourage them to stay and provide the jobs, investments and skills that are the foundations of any powerful economy. I don't care if one is Tory, Labour, Lib Dem or anything else - the reality remains the same!

Only country they can get into.Look up the immigration rules of many other countries and you won't get into them. Unless you have a link to another country, emigrating is very difficult.
Stop kidding yourself that the UK is the top of the list to emigrate to. We only have a large immigrant community because our existing immigrant community sponsors them to come over.
Myself and MrsT had to choose between the UK and the US recently and it was hard to make a case for me to stay in the UK and for her to join me.
I appreciate the argument regarding P.G. and other successful business people of his ilk, I do not have a problem with success or wealth. The debate was B.C. living in a house that should be allocated to a 'needy' family, because Bob can afford to buy his own home and his being unfair staying in rented accommodation. Now I say his morally deficient regarding this issue, but no more so than P.G. avoiding his tax. Both are operating legally maximising their private wealth/income, I have no problem with that. I point out that IMO neither is better then t'other. Thats is all.

I take your point completely. Don't agree 100%, but I see what you mean! The one thing that for me makes them different is that PG is what he is, a businessman. As a by product of his success the country and his employees benefit but fundamentally, he is doing his thing. Bob on the other hand, puts himself out there as some kind of moral champion and that for me is the critical difference. I don't honestly see it as a Tory v Labour thing etc. On this one I see it as one is a commercial giant who is clearly driven by his own success and makes not bones about it, the other is Bob ;-)
Still think he is funny though!

True, I expect he can afford to purchase, but his entitled to exercise his choice just as you and I are. Haven't read or heard any of his Union members complain about his life style. I'm not defending him, rather the issue.

Aren't Housing Association houses meant to be for poor people to live in?
Depends on your definition of poor. All social housing – whether it be council housing or housing association – is allocated on the basis of housing need. There has been some discussion for a while about whether tenants should have their circumstances re-assessed after a period of time, however the govt has decided that this will only apply to new tenants – existing tenants of social housing will have the same rights as they have always had. From now on social landlords will be able to charge up to 80% of the open market rent for new tenants – as opposed to the average of around 60% of market rent that most current tenants pay.
I will add in apropos of not much really..
Even if my Labrador could urinate on demand I would not ask him to do so on this waste of life, oxygen and atoms even if he was burning with the very assistance of the brimstone of Hades.
The very fact he has the unmitigated gaul to do this just says everything you would ever need to understand about the very definition of a Champagne Socialist.
As for the comparisons to the likes of PG.. Really we have got to the point where 2 (badly compared) wrongs make a right have we? Wow socialism is progressive these days!

‘Bob Crow makes no apology for living in social housing,’ the union said.
He makes no apology for being a two-faced parasitic value-destroying scrofular carbuncle on the testicles of British industry, either. He represents some of the most feather-bedded employees in any sector and encourages them to strike in pursuit of unaffordable and unjustified improvements in conditions knowing that he holds the already arthritic and overloaded mass transport system of the main economic engine of the country to ransom as he does it. Each time his syphilitic and palsied hotbed of retro-stalinists paralyse the city we - you and me, consumers and contributors of tax revenue alike - lose millions and the fragile competitiveness of our economy, atherosclerotic as it is with public sector fat deposits and handicapped by short-sighted politics-of-envy tax regimes and Kafkaesque mountains of bureaucracy invented by Crow's co-religionists in local and central government, gets ever closer to its final and unrecoverable fiscal myocardial infarction. I'm no great fan of collective bargaining at the best of times but when it produces all-time unbeaten world-championship-standard A1-government-certified copper-bottomed gold-plated egregious rectal polyps like Crow it really is time to break out the firehoses and bus in the blacklegs.

It surprised me that the RMT web site doesn't mention fighting injustice, or a fair days wages for a fair days work, like I expected. It's quite honest about what it's objectives are."Protecting and bettering our members' pay and conditions is the key RMT objective. We negotiate with over 150 transport-sector companies - using every opportunity to drive home our positive agenda for better pay, shorter hours and safer working conditions."
So basically, grab everything that you possibly can with no regard for the consequences. I guess it's no surprise where he lives.

Capitalism may be vulgar, crass and uncaring at times, but it does generally work on the principle that a deal is only good if there's something left on the table for all parties.
