Good range of kit but how about a chin-up bar and a campus board or even a bouldering wall?
have added a chin / dip bar combo, would not use the bouldering wall, excuse my ignorance but whats a campus board?incredible how much room is needed when you start spreading out so we have removed the cars, added a free weight back row machine, 10 mirrors, some rubber flooring & TV (not large projector yet)
will get some more pics up soon!

ah, quite a few real walls here already for that, not really my thing though.LordGrover said:
Getting further from a home gym each time we see it.
thats the idea, had the garage gyms before but wanted something more this time....it had to replace a professional membership gym with no compromise + have added things that I always missed in gyms.
As you & allot of people on here, I have trained all my life & its been & become a very big part of my life, its got me through some very tough times & i intend to train until the day I die. For that I want the best I can have, as I'm sure most of you would given the chance.
ever since i started training Its been a life long dream for me to have our own professional gym all to ourselves

Any chance of a thread tangent?
I have no home gym, but have just bought a bike like LG's York bike in the pic below. (Fatties seem to buy this stuff on a whim and Ebay it soon after, so this one was a bargain.)
I'm happy enough with the bike as a starter. But want to cover other muscles, too. Have been told a good companion machine would be a rowing type. Any recommendations?

IMO the only rower worth considering is the concept 2, expensive though. Click.
Still pretty much a cardio workout though.
To develop muscle you need to shift iron.
Thanks - will research on those.Still pretty much a cardio workout though.

Not interested in 'bulking up' - just exercising more than just leg muscles and heart on the bike. Thought a rower would at least get some mid and upper body muscles moving? (I'm very new to this!)

a rower would be good, but for the additional muscles you want to hit you'd be far better off price wise & results wise with press ups, pull ups and a light barbell for shoulders, biceps and triceps, rowers are probably a better 1st buy than a bike tbo as it'd hit more muscles, but seeing as you already have the bike for heart and legs....Not interested in 'bulking up' - just exercising more than just leg muscles and heart on the bike. new pic, now stretches to far right corner, much better feel for the extra space.
PVapour, awesome, awesome space, looking great.
How the heck are you going to heat it in the winter though? (unless you are far down South of course). You could get some of those gas burner things that they have on the terraces of Parisienne cafes and spread them around the place
Lost BMW, I bought the York deadlift bar you have, thanks for the tip, it has changed everything. So much better than deadlifting with a straight olympic bar, much more comfortable and brings in the glutes/hamstrings more.

Heat?!
I train in an old barn, all year round - it was minus 11.5 in there last winter. Heat's for wimps
I'm certainly not afraid of the cold either, I have the aircon on at work all year round including the winter.I train in an old barn, all year round - it was minus 11.5 in there last winter. Heat's for wimps

Saying that though, there's something very uninviting about walking into a chilly gym in shorts and vest and getting motivated for a workout. Not talking about heating per se, just removing the chill. Minus 11.5? Wouldn't like that at all.

Oddly enough, I actually think I prefer training when it's cold - I get something of a buzz out of it.

thanks Driller, its a good 5 degrees warmer here in the winter so shouldn't be to bad, I've worked outside most of my life so a little numbed to cold weather tbo, may have to add a little heat for better half though How the heck are you going to heat it in the winter though? those gas burners are banned here
I've mown a running track into the perimeter of out land so I reckon 2 laps before we get in the gym is probably the best way
tbo its the heat thats been tough, aug was mainly 35 > 40 degrees again this year which left us sheltering in the gym doing a workout as we couldn't work in the heat, 4 litres of water per work out 50/50 mix with Gatorade
air con for next year

Too bad about the gas burners they would be handy. I know what you mean about the heat, I go down to my basement gym or studio sometimes to escape the heat in summer (and since it's two thirds height-wise below ground it's not too cold in winter either). Aircon sounds like a good idea but you're going to need something industrial for that space I reckon. You must have a fair few cubic feet in that place!
It isn't so bad - just wear warm gear over the t-shirt and shorts, do some CV work, you'll be wanting to remove the outer layers after about 20 minutes. I mean footballers seem to be ok when it's 5C outside and they're running around.
I normally turn off the CH in winter and train with the window open as I get quite warm.
Saves a couple of hours' worth of gas.

Glad to hear it mate, it is a very good bit of kit. Have you tried shrugs or bent over rows with it yet? I prefer the lower, narrower grip for this as it seems to pit just a hint of stress on my shoulder if I use the wider one.Lost_BMW said:

Do you know, I'm such an arse, I had to go and look at your gym photo to find the pic of your special improved bar with this extra, narrower grip which I don't have on mine. And I've just realised that of course I do. I thought the top grip seemed a bit wide even for my long arms!
I'm off to give it a try with some shrugs right now. Thanks again
