Oh my is the C4s with PSE one of the best car sounds ever.
Very very happy.
My top 3 car sounds in no particular order. (cars that I have experience with)
Lambo Gallardo with Tubi
M3 CSL (standard)
996 with PSE
if you havent got one, you need one!
Glad your enjoying it Lee. Certainly sounded good Very very happy.

To hear the PSE properly you need to disconnect the brown plug in the engine bay. With that done the exhaust is loud all of the time and can be heard inside at all speeds ....it is especially rorty when driving through a built up area as it will not quiet down when certain speeds are reached.

Agreed, but don't forget to plug it back in every now and then or the $$$ valves will get stuck in the "open" position.
Or alternatively you can go for this method which will permanently remove the cut-out at 2000-4000RPM however retains the ON-OFF switch function:PSE relay pull or Diode cut (no PSE quiet cut off)
For European drive by noise regs, the PSE disables between approximately 2.5k and 4k rpm.
To prevent this nannying of you PSE enjoyment, either remove the relay (whilst the PSE is NOT in quiet mode), or better still perform the diode cut mod (then you still retain the console switch operation):
To pull the under-dash relay:
Remove #2 relay when the PSE is in loud mode (switched open).
LHD, but you get the idea:
To perform the diode cut:
Make sure the car is turned off, remove relay #2
It is black (see below) and printed "Abgasklappen" (German for "EXHAUST VALVE" or "EXHAUST FLAP").
Numbered: 996.618.980.01 or 996.618.980.02 or 996.618.980.03
Take the relay indoors and sit down. It may be quite difficult to prize the relay open, just use a thin blade or jeweller's screwdrivers to lever open. Be careful, there is a PCB inside.
Cut out the chestnut brown/dark orange glass diode (side snips are good) that connects to Pin 1 (it's the diode nearest the PCB support strut).
Clip back together and replace in relay carrier.
Go for a drive

Had a PSE on my 996 C2 and loved it. spent most of my time on here shouting to everyone how good they were and how it transformed the character of the car.
That is until I went away on holiday in convoy with two friends (Nervous & Magic Torch). One was driving a tricked up Manthey GT3 Mk1 (a godess) and the other a fettled 996C2 Mk1 (GT3 wanna-be with a green interior )
the 'three had a custom manthey exhaust, and the C2 a techart. Neither system was boomy on motorways but both cars sounded epic at full chat.
In comparison my PSE almost sounded "fake" and deliberately engineered. When doing a number of tunnel runs on the schelp down to Monaco I felt distinctly let down by the whole PSE experience.
So the moral of my story is, PSE is a lovely thing, especially when the bypass cut off is removed. However, there are other products out there that can make a much better sound for similar money.
As an aside, Charlie ran the car on his rolling road and there was no performance gain irrespective of whether the PSE was switched on or off.

I have a 996 without PSE which is a daily driver and I do about 15k a year in it including 200+ mile motorway slogs
The one thing I would change would be to reduce noise from tyre roar
If I have the bypass mod will it add cabin noise at 70 - 80 mph when cruising?

On a 996.2 with a 1.5" bypass it's no louder than stock at <2000rpm and hardly noticeable at <3000rpm.The one thing I would change would be to reduce noise from tyre roar
