Renault are the best of the French. It'll be comfortable, reasonably well equipped, and cheap on things like tyres and brakes.

Electrics will be the biggest potential problem. But be glad it's not a Peugeot. Or a citroen.

For a station car/daily beater, it'll do you fine I'm sure.

Come on PH, we all get a thrill from a new car, don't be a buzz kill! smile

Just done a hpi check, and all turns out well apart from:

Data currently held on NMR indicates there may be a mileage discrepancy
Note: However this does not take into account any mileage supplied to eBay by the seller.

Is that a big deal? Surely if I check MOT's I'll be ok. Again I'm asking for advice, I know very little about this stuff.

Shouldnt you have checked this stuff before you placed a bid?

Yes. But, like most people I don't. Ultimately, I dont want to spend money on something which MAY have no benefit to me. Now I know some people on here will research a car at great length, and test drive similar models etc... However I am not really like that, I saw it and thought that will do so bid.

I just wanted to know what it meant really. I'm not precious enough to care about little things but I'd rather know how to check it's not done 700k miles. Thanks

I drove one of these a couple of years back and it was awful. Nothing from the engine when you wanted it and brakes so sensitive they would stop on a sixpence. 100 yards short of a junction!!

Echo the dull interior comment. And the key card novelty wears thin!!

The only thing is I've got a 150 mile drive to see it.
I can't believe you're doing a 150 mile trip for a Renault Megane. There must have been something better closer to you? nuts

It looks a bit ropey to me.

Could just be a combo of bad pictures and a dirty car though.

Here's the thing, spending that little bit of money before you purchase could save you a whole heap if your car turns out to be a dog with a limp biscuit.

It's a fat arsed Renault - why bid on this thing & why travel 150 miles to buy it? Me thinks OP was probably pissed when he bid on it!

Good luck, OP.

That's about all I can offer, having read the thread so far.

He could have saved himself £1800.00 & bought my Laguna! At least my car doesn't have a fat ass.

Let's not be too negative, the seller may have to re-list it by tomorrow at this rate.

Op it may work out for you, doing your homework before hand is paramount though, 150 miles and 2.5k and I'd need to be 100% on the thing

Good luck OP, I hope it's a good 'un. My Bro in law had a Megane for a couple of years and apart from servicing needed now't.

email/speak to the seller and ask for the MOT certificate no.....put it in and hey presto, the MOT history of the vehicle with the mileages and any advisories...

Wow - thanks for that it will be really handy. I'll take my ipad along and check it when I look over the car. Although tbh if I don't buy it I'm in a bit of a miss, as I've only booked a one way train ticket to Birmingham! (And I know that lot's of you are going to get grumpy with me and point out I'm living up to my name on here, but hey you only live once and may as well have some fun).

On the other hand. My offer is still open. If anyone on here is from Birmingham, and had a spare half an hour on Monday I'd be happy to buy them a few beers if they were willing to look at it for me.

I've got the feeling it's probably been clocked, but given it's age and the price I'll be paying for it, I can live with that. At the end of the day and without wanting to sound arrogant, if I run it for 6 months and have to sell it for 500 quid as spares and repairs, then I can live with that. Worst case scenario, I'll turn up in birmingham, get mugged by 5 hard men and be left in a bloody mess with no way of getting home smile.

So the car was bought unsighted, without doing an HPI, from ebay, from a bloke called Kelvyn and it is a Renault.

Good luck! Very apt user name though.

Re the heater fan then could be something silly like air in the cooling system causing an airlock - keep an eye on the temp gauge on test drive.
May be HGF too though.

What would put me off is that it is his sons car and its had a new turbo and water pump. Sounds like the car has had its (fat) ass thrashed in only a way a young teenage lad knows how to. The turbo has croaked and the HG has given up is my bet, largely as the young scamp is probably as thick as a whale omelette and continued to drive with little or no cooling due to pump failure. This has allowed the car to overheat, HG to fail and maybe an explanation for the heater.

May the force be with you.
