I need a new hobby...
Discussion
Currently I spend a bit too much time in front of screens at home.
So I'm after a new hobby, any suggestions?
An obvious one would be remote control cars, which I've tried before but it didn't last long.
Loved tinkering around with the engine, taking it to bits, upgrading etc. Wasn't actually that keen on driving it.
When I was younger, I played with meccano, lego and knex for hours and hours.
So I like moving things that I can take apart.
Don't want anything too expensive, so no more than say £1200 spend PA.
Suggestions?

A couple of my friends do up bikes, then show them, then sell them on.
It seems to be a good mix of working alone/social for them.
Seems a good suggestion - if you can fix stuff and enjoy doing it, why not buy broken things, fix them and sell them on - laptops, cars, bikes, motorbikes ...It seems to be a good mix of working alone/social for them.
Have fun, help the planet and make money. Perfect.
I need a new lawnmower, if you happen to fix one

Used to do this with laptops, but there's no enjoyment in it. It feels too much like my old job as a computer technician.Have fun, help the planet and make money. Perfect.

Build a kit car?
I have plans to do this some day, but currently I don't have any space or access to a garage. Wouldn't want to go down the bike route, don't trust myself or others enough!

How old are you and how much time have you to dedicate to the new hobby?
I'm 22, up to 16 hours a week.Take up target shooting. There are lots of 'technical' shooting disciplines that involve modifying, experimenting and generally tinkering with rifles and the associated kit. You can spend as little or as much as you like. Its a solitary activity done in a social setting, if that makes sense. I'll admit its not everyone's cup of tea (shooting in general and target shooting in particular) but those who get the bug really do get it.

I'd agree with this.It helps with many areas of self discipline too.
It can be as technical as you want to get and there's a competitive element too if you enjoy that.

This.Much more enjoyable than clay pigeon shooting, but on the flipside clay shooting has a much more sociable feel to it.

You know what, this is a great idea. I recently took it up with my son.And we stopped after the first few visits to local ranges and clubs.
Lets just say the people who are into this sport in a big way (in my experience) are rather "eccentric" I'm sure there are some normal folk somewhere that are into it, but not at all around here.
