After my drive home yesterday, I am using the rest of the fuel in the tank then it's coming apart.

New chains and sprockets, for starters....
The book they do for the E36 is fantastic.

O/T saw a black GT86 this morning on my B road run. Looked great. Upped my want when I was chasing it. Found out that my 323 goes MUCH better on petrol than gas.

I had the pleasure of watching the paragon of acting brilliance that is "Killer Elite" yesterday - an unremarkable film made significantly more unremarkable by the void of acting talent that is Jason Statham.

However, what did make it mildly interesting was that it was set in 1980 and used a selection of cars that were almost historically correct - the film opened with a 4-pot E28 chasing a W123 Merc, and threw in a selection of Jags, Granadas and assorted other gems.

I do now feel compelled to go out with a shopping list of cars from the 80s and find somewhere to stash them all away. A Mk2 Golf GTi is sitting quite high up that list...

I watched that also.

Spent the whole time nit picking the mistakes. Set in 1981, actually - opening sequence was 1980, then main action '1 year later' but the chase with the 1986 Mk2 Jetta had me shouting, the B reg car in one scene was annoying, the bendy buses were unlikely and using the waterloo city line platform for the Metro was absurd.

Other than that, it was a bit st.

Funny you should mention that - I had a weekend of coincidental GTi references. One of my work colleagues mentioned that he had an opportunity to buy one from a mate, and a random couple I met at a B&B told the story of how they sold her green one. Seems she didn't know what she had, and the 'phone range off the hook when advertised - the first to see it bought, and could be heard confirming that "I'm going to buy it" as they were walking up the drive to view it. hehe

I'm glad it wasn't just me that sat there picking fault at the cars, but I suppose at least they tried a little.

Not quite what I was originally thinking, but I suspect this could be fun:

Nope.

Oak Green 3 dr big bumper with leather and BBS is THE spec, and anyone that argues spends their evenings with a box of tissues and a laminated photograph of John Prescott.

Should that one have had big bumpers? An 89/G ought to have small bumpers from the factory, should it not?

The bullseye is just above his third chin, in case you wondered.

That's your bullseye. I prefer his left eyebrow.

There are 1990-model G-reg cars with big bumpers (with the hazard switch on the column not the dash). Mine was a 1989-model G-reg which had been "upgraded" with them.

That's what I was wondering; back in the late 80s, I thought model years aligned a bit more closely to the actual year. The NEC/Earls Court show would have seen the introduction of next year's spec usually. So would a 1989 registered GTI have been available with them?
