Thanks for your very insightful knowledge of the industry, and your wonderful use of the English language.
I started with 6 drivers, 7 years ago. 5 of them are still with me today, the 6th can no longer drive due to a hip replacement.
There are times when it is quiet, but compared to the most self employed labourers, drivers will find them selves with work more than most others.
And no, for they record they are not all of a muchness. Do your research first before spouting 'crap'!
Uniloads drivers have been known to sleep 4 up in a car overnight.
My drivers go home at night, and on the odd occasion they do have to stop out, I put them up in a B&B or hotel.
So what's the pay rate then?I started with 6 drivers, 7 years ago. 5 of them are still with me today, the 6th can no longer drive due to a hip replacement.

So if I understand correctly the job offer above entails :-
Make your way , in your own time and at your own expense to point A to collect a car and drive it to point B .
If point B is < 60 miles away you will earn £20 .
You make your return journey in your own time and at your own expense , or the good will of passing motorists who pick up hitch hikers , and await further work ?
At minimum wage , £20 is about 3 1/4 hours work . I think you'd be lucky to do the above task in 3 hours.
Please correct me if I'm wrong .

Ahhh....now I know more about some guys/girls I've seen lately trying to hitchhike with a trade plate hanging on their neck...http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2011/06/s...
Interesting job but I am not too sure about the hitch hiking?

All depends on where your next job is, and how far exactly your journey is.http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2011/06/s...

If we have a team of local guys, they will on average do 4 <60m jobs a day, average compound opening hours are 07:30 - 16:30.
If you do a job to Scotland and back, it's on average £80 up and £80 back.
The idea for us as a logistics company doing work for over 30 customers is that we try and get you a car to drop off near to where there is one to pick up to minimise the travel in between.
Downtime for us is lost revenue, that's the best way of looking at it, so the more time we have a driver in the seat of a car behind the wheel, the better it is for everyone!
You all have good days, you will have bad days, that's the nature of being self employed in any line of work.
What needs to be taken in to consideration with trade plate driving is that unlike most other jobs, the commuting to work is between dropping off and picking up. Yes, there 'may' be an element of cost involved, but then again, most people who commute to work have an element of cost involved. I travel 15 miles each way to work and no one pays my fuel or time, where as a trade plate driver will have collected his car the day before and is earning as soon as he leave the house.
You'll be lucky to take home £200 per week for 70+ hours. I've done trade plating and all the companies that do it are as bad as each other. Don't say you weren't warned! The stories posted in the links above (and the comments after them) are not exaggerated - that is the true reality of it.

....all? really?
Prey tell the companies who you have worked for.

So his figures are wildly out then..?
No they are not and the fact he's already advertising for drivers again tells people all they need to know about the job.£300 per week average will equate to 80+ hours. A "busy" week will be well over 100 hours and £450 is just laughable. More chance of s
tting in the Queen's handbag than ever seeing that money on plating work.
Try it and see, guys. If you last more than a week I'll be surprised. 2 weeks and I'll be amazed. 3+ weeks and you definitely have "mug" tattooed across your head. Do come back here and report your experiences though, won't you?

The reason I am advertising for more drivers is that we have increased the size of our business due to increased workloads and a new contract with another major company.£300 per week average will equate to 80+ hours. 80hours + a week? Maybe for some companies, but that is not how we work.
I started this company 7 years ago next week with 6 drivers. 5 of those are still with me today.
Now we have 50 driver positions, of which 46 positions are filled with drivers who are regularly working and pulling in regular money.
Unless you have correct facts relating to my business, then please refrain from posting drivel.
I'm offering members of this forum, the opportunity to earn some money driving cars.
What is it exactly you are offering?

t pay.
EFA.
t pay.If your company was as decent as your posts claim in this thread you would not even be needing to advertise as the vacancies would be filled by word of mouth and/or you would have a backlog of drivers on file waiting for vacancies to come up. But you don't... and that says it all.
I will leave it at that and let people make up their own minds about plating work before you go crying to the mods again to get my posts removed because you don't want people to see the true picture.

If you do not want to do this work then don't, but is there any need to try and screw this PHer's offer for others?£300 per week average will equate to 80+ hours. A "busy" week will be well over 100 hours and £450 is just laughable. More chance of s

They kindly offered a job, in harsh times, to fellow members and you have done nothing but rip into them. Please cease.
You have made your point that it isn't for you now leave it alone mate and let others get on.

Just like the 'true' picture you are portraying? If your company was as decent as your posts claim in this thread you would not even be needing to advertise as the vacancies would be filled by word of mouth and/or you would have a backlog of drivers on file waiting for vacancies to come up. So, how can you let people make their own minds up when you are offering up such unfounded comments?
As a member on here and being a car related job, it makes sense for me to come here to advertise and offer people work. Just part of the community spirit which you seem to have lost along the way.
And yes, I do have a few names of people on file and they have been emailed out as well this morning, but it doesn't mean they are suitable and it doesn't mean I shouldn't offer out the opportunity here or anywhere else for that matter. And lets face it, people don't just sit around on their arses if I didn't have any vacancies at the time they enquired and the majority of people whose names I have on file have probably got work already. Out of 7 I emailed this morning, 3 have already had the courtesy to mail back to state they have found alternative employment, one is coming to the office on Monday morning and 3 others I am waiting for a reply back.

It annoys me because he tries to paint a picture of how great it is with big earning potential yet conveniently "forgets" to mention what's involved to achieve that. I've done the job and fallen into the same trap several times over from companies saying "oh no, we don't work like that, we're different!" and surprise, surprise, no they're not, they're all exactly the same. They kindly offered a job, in harsh times, to fellow members and you have done nothing but rip into them. Please cease.

Perhaps you should take up his kind offer and see what's actually expected of you for your money then you won't be so eager to make posts defending such companies.

Shame about the 30 plus policy I'd love to do something like this.
