Cos it's a heavy old hector, getting on for two tonnes with that lump up front, so it takes a while to get moving. And the gearing is set more for touring than racing Barry in his Fiesta with the stripes away from the lights.

A 340 bhp TVR, at just over half the weight, takes around the 5 second mark to 60, by way of comparison.

I see you have a 450 Griff, and we know that the published, expert driver, brand new car, clutch ripping time is, about 4.2 secs......but have you actually timed a real, used one? My 400 Chim is supposed to do it in 5.1 secs, but it is nearer 6 seconds in reality.

To be fair you're not comparing apples with apples in that case. My old 500 I did, the BV i have way too much mechanical sympathy for although i suspect it's faster in real terms. A full engine rebuild this year does that to a man

I agree I am not making a fair comparison, and I too have far too much sympathy for Niggles, my 1999 Chimaera, who is a total joy to drive. I kept him down to 140 mph on my last track day, even though I had a mile and a half of smooth runway to test the advertised top speed of 161.

My original post was more to point out to the poster that even a car with the same power, but weighing just over half as much as his car, actually doesn't do the job in half the time. It is of course quicker, but wind resistance amongst other factors also distorts the speed improvement.

Seen another which is less dosh (still only done 90k with fsh though!) and also in dream spec....Sport with cream cow and black paint....the catch it's a 3.2....

But its 700 odd quid less....

But has no V5 and is being sold on rather quickly....and has had the windows tinted. So after sleeping on it i'm ouuut. And I think if I don't get a 4.0 i'll always regret it...

It didn't get any bids.... but the seller hasn't replied to my email (no number in ad) so maybe hes had a change of heart

Not from me, but I'm hardly Fangio. From £35 which seems very cheap.

Stick with a recognised brand and you won't go far wrong. Bilstein, Sachs etc.

Absolutely, I intend to. I think it's a £300ish job including labour. Hopefully will notice a difference in the way it drives. Quite looking forward to getting it done.

I changed 1 rear one on my E38 and it's ABSOLUTELY fine. Forza West even said it'd be fine and we're happy to do it. I honestly can't notice any oddities in the handling because of it.

The straight 6 in the w124 is so smooth, I just pulled on the drive and neither of the neighbours about 3-4 meters away even knew we were there.

Still though, what tyres should i go for, my usual choice for recent cars is either falken 912 or 452. The 912's are available i the 195/65/15 profile for a special offer of around £40 each on camskill + fitting else where of course.

Are there any super tyres that anyone uses on there w124 saloon that i should know about for not much more?
Any w124 owners experience of their tyres and the ride they give.
I think the current tyres are very old Michelin primacy sports that have seen better days.
