Apologies, yes it will, but only the software. There's no big holes left in the dash where radios and computers are all pulled from, because it's linked into the idrive.
so with some aggressive recovery software... sonar
Thanks. That's kind of what I was wondering. I guess it is made unrecoverable. Or as pointed out earlier it can't connect anyway.

A friend of mine bought a police astra from an auction.

Had a deep clean for blood on the service history, wheel bearings went quickly followed by the gearbox. Holes in the dash etc. I`d rather spend the extra on a "normal" car.

I drive m/way cars and wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. We no longer buy Volvos as they are unreliable tat. There's a couple left on the fleet lingering on, We keep hoping they'll be used in a TPAC and get written off.

The 5 series are very reliable, but at 100'000m the DPF light seems to come on without fail.

The Jag XFs have been a big disappointment. Great when they work, but lots of breakdowns.

The cars are only serviced to maufacturers guidelines. They are generally used 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. They are not borrowed, but bought very cheaply. We have a couple of 5 series tat are less than 6 months old. They are like the executioners axe. I don't think they have an original body panel on them. They've been rammed by everything from pick-ups to HGVs. They're being kept longer now due to cuts. They go at arond 200'000m and they are VERY tired.

My mate has got a Range Rover he wants killing, perhaps we could arrange something? hehe

In fairness to the Volvo's everyone I've spoken to loves them, maybe you've just been unlucky.

Don't think so. From 2007 (no idea why) they became VERY unreliable. Expensive to repair and took ages to get fixed. Volvo were very unhelpful. Then the diesels came along and they are just woeful. The gearboxes went bang in the first 1000 miles on a number if ours. The one we have is used as a hack for non-operational use. It's hopeless.
I like the XC60 but I wouldn't touch a Volvo after those experiences. Put me right off

Think I know the one you're on about, 61 plate? I never could get my head around the D5's being used for traffic, the performance (or lack of) must be shocking.

I remember the vectra forum jizzing over the fact you could (can?) buy 'Police Spec' pads from the dealer counter.

Volvo went downhill a long time ago.

OP, clear answer: No.

200 k miles - rage for cars been used for things like high speed pursuits and stopping criminals and t pacs - thats insane. The Gardai (police) here in Ireland where im from have a mileage limit of 300 000 kilometers. Far too high imo - and i speak as someone who as i mentioned earlier have no problem with high mileage cars in general.

But emergency services work is not the place for a 200 000 mile car thats been on that work from new.

Is it all BMWs for you guys from now on - i think i see somewhere they (BMW) were approved by some "national body" thats supposed to approve cars for police purchase.

I'd guess they were listed as the 'special' model. Saying that, they also made the police spec Vx Astra Special 1.3 cdti. So it really isnt that special at all.

Our new crime comissioner has apparently demanded to know why we use top of the range BMW's. He wants rid of them as he seems them as a huge financial drain.

Rightly so aswell.

Not this again.

Those comments are only made by people who have no idea what they cost to buy and run. They also no nothing about weight limits, reliability requirements and end of life costs. It really is getting a bit tedious.

A neighbor of mine is a dog handler and has an SMax with the Land Shark in the back.
...has a good laugh regularly outrunning the traffic Volvos when they get a call.

It really is time they stopped seeing BMW as a 'premium' brand. They're not, given that they shift about as many cars a year as Ford! Not to mention the 5 Series Tourings have not been all that well received here.

Regardless how much they cost, i can bet my mortgage they still cost more than a lot of good alternatives out there.

Are you seriously telling me a brand new top of the range (literally top of the range, idrive, tiptronic box, leather seats etc) is more financially viable than a Vectra, or even an Octavia?

It also doesn't explain why we have 6 of them, yet only 2 are used at any one time.

The police don't pay anywhere near retail price for their vehicles. If they were that expensive they wouldn't be in use by almost every force in the country.

And they're not top of the range. They're generally SE spec with cloth interiors.

No Idrive, no leather.

And for the last time. We don't walk into a showroom with a bloody brochure.

I work on the m/way. Can you tell me how much our kit weighs? Do you know the load limits of a Vectra? Do you know what support each of those manufacturers gives? Do you know what performance limits a fully loaded vehicle has?

Not quite as simple as you make out is it.

But as you seem so concerned about money. Here's an easy one. What does a 180'000m BMW 530d make. What does a 180'000m Vauxhall make (if you could ever sell it). Through life costs for a BMW are cheaper.

If you are as you claim in the job, I would expect you to display a little more knowledge than the Dail Mail attitude you display.

Anyway, back to topic. Don't buy one.

Our bm's have idrive and leather.

There's also public image, and to be honest, in this day and age, the requirement for a large road policing department (at least my my force) is questionable.
