The PH Gun Cabinet - Shooting Matters
Discussion
Hello Don, I posted on the learning to shoot thread would anyone be able to advise me how to use the cable lock that was given to me with my new air rifle as a trigger lock. You mentioned that you had some so any idea on how to use it.
Currently I have wrapped the cable several times around the trigger guard and behind the trigger but I'm sure that you could still fire it with a a bit of fiddle.
Ta.

Not sure if there's another general advice thread but I'm after some for purchase of an air rifle.
I've borrowed a 22 for the last week to shoot rats in the chicken run which I've had a good level of success with. It has a scope fitted and I'm confident that theres enough accuracy and power for my needs.
This will be the main use for the gun buy I'd like to do some recreational shooting later when time permits.
Budget to start with should be at the lower end of the scale!
Any recommendations? Happy to look at used but need to know where to look and what to look for. Ideally like to store it secure due to my two boys in the house.
Thanks
Paul

Bought from Donaldson Guns near Milton keynes on Saturday with an air bottle, slip, lock and pellets.
Killed a rat this afternoon as a start!

Hope to have many hours of enjoyment from my new hobby!
Spent the morning at a guest day at the local rifle and pistol club. Did 20 rounds with a Ruger .22 semi-auto, a .38 underlever gallery rifle, a .177 PCP air rifle and 6 rounds with a black powder pistol.
Very enjoyable and a nice bunch of people. Was talking to the lady taking applications for membership who told me that they had had a massive increase in applications within the last 6 months but had no idea why.
The Ruger looked like an American M4 army rifle and I was surprised at how light it was, felt lighter than my air rifle.

Sounds like a ruger 10/22, possibly in a custom stock. nice rifle. Many air rifles are heavier than .22 rifles, especially spring guns, since there's less in them! also the current trend of plastic stocks helps.
Does feel odd when I get my old spring air rifle out - its as heavy as my (heavy) shotgun!
I'm currently up at uni, so away from all the fun, but we have a fox problem at home, so it looks like I'm going to have some fun with the whistle and a tin or sardines when I'm back...

One of my mates just bought a Barrett 50 cal, and brought it along last night to show and tell.... Sweet Baby Jesus, it is a monster!
That is an understatement, it's worse than a monster, quick video of it's first outing.... Barrett .50 BMG 1200yd Hard Targets£3 per pull of the trigger hurts as much as the concussion shock wave.

How did he buy one? Must be mega bucks! Bro in law is an ex sniper and Army weapons tester and used these; absolute beasts!£3 per pull of the trigger hurts as much as the concussion shock wave.

Blimey! that is a lot of money. Surely the sum of all the parts cannot equate to nearly £10k? Is it a prestige thing like Purdey Shotguns etc? or is it to put wannabees off?
At least £3000 of that is the scope and BORS (an attachment which measures range to take the guesswork out of it). It's not unusual for a precision rifle made in relatively small numbers to cost in excess of £5000...

Firing at 2ins targets at 25m I got a tight over lapping grouping half an inch above bull so realised it was the sight not me so I compensated and then it was a bull almost every shot. My first time so I'm proud
