I learned the hard way ! took mine off three times thinking the gaskets were leaking furious In the end i took V8D`s advice and filled manifolds with water ,guess what they both leaked on the welds where the four meets one .

So that was a waste of blood sweat and tears eek
ooooh! I wonder if that's something I could spot with an IR camera...
Can also be heared blowing with a medical stethoscope with a tube attachement.

Don't laugh, but you could possibly adapt one from a kids' doctors and nurses kit. You just need the far end to be small and pointy so tat you can direct it accurately.

while mine were off I cut the lower holes into slots so it was LOADS easier putting them back on. Get the stud kit, fit the lower ones then slot the manifolds into place

I was about to suggest this too, very good idea, also if you can get hold of some a gas fitters smoke pellet?match can help in pinpointing exhaust leaks.

Bumpy..

When Halfords open I'm off to get some copper slip and do my offside ones, does anyone put some sealant on the gaskets or do you do them dry? I'm planning on changing a habit of a lifetime and do something once and correctly smile

I wonder about copper grease + steel bolts + aluminium. Room for galvanic corrosion? Useful for taking the squeak out of the back of break pads. On boat hulls it's always copper with copper nails, never with steel nails. Have used standard new bolts on mine with some oil. It worked for TVR, it works for me. What does the expert jury think? An electro chemist should know.
Metal conpatibility chart says dont mix aluminium with copper!

Well I bought some copper slip and it said something like 900 degrees+ on the tube, I know these under bonnet temps can be a bit high but I think it should be ok smile

(Just come in for a tea break)

Seriously, what fking idiot designed this? And the bd who did it last time didn't put a washer on the top back one and rounded the nut. 2 fking hours and I still haven't got it off, one last nut and I needed a 13mm to undo it from the aircon pump. ranting

Ahhh... the joys of the exhaust manifold, I was there recently. Seriously, cut slots in the bottom bolt holes of the manifolds. It makes removal and refitting much easier!
