Ditto, sounds like it might be a good buy for 3 bags. smile

Solenoid for the flap, pads and discs maybe, wheel bearing. Easy.

It's disturbing how appealing I find this car: http://www.w124.co.uk/carsforsale.php?page=detail&...

It's great, isn't it? I love the way it has zero spec and yet so much want. Plus the oddball colours. We looked at it before, I think in vol 4, when it was for sale privately. I guess the manual transmission will put a lot of people off, but it will make it pretty zippy and pretty economical, it's a light and slippery car. The saloons always end up being the coolest: just look at the 123.

Edit: here is the old ad for the 230 E: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C309412 and here is where we discussed it: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=2&a...

I would probably look into this as a matter of priority - this can often be as a result of a failing cooling system which its good to catch as early as you can.

Speaking of which, do you find the e39 tends to put out a disproportionate amount of air through the dash vents? More often than not I have to angle them away from me as it's too breezy, even when rotating the dial right into the red, never had the issue in the e46.

I think this has got cheaper. Question is, why has it been for sale so long, something wrong with it, or these cars just not shifting? Crap Alpina bodykit?

If there isnt anything wrong with it, apart from needing new plates and losing the crap Alpina trim, must be worth £2k of anyones money, no?

"Other faults are heater is cold only "

Common S Type issue, due to a faulty heater valve.

I recall reading about this whilst surfing the Jag magazines in Sainsburys a couple of weeks ago.

There are a couple of good Jag forums that you should be able to get some more advice on either the DIY route, or what to expect parts & labour wise from a good indy.

Over priced IMO, I bought a '99 540 with all the 'crappy' but genuine Alpina kit (and gen. Alpina Softlines) the original owner ticked just about every option including glass sunroof, double glazing, elec. comfort seats and M5 door mirrors, although the miles on mine are double it has a folder full of history and cost me less than half the price of the one above.

Mine seems ok - though you can reduce the throughput from the front vents by opening the rear vent, if that makes sense. Mine only tends to become noticeably breezy when its sunny outside and the solar sensor compensates for it or when I move the dial into the extreme cold/hot position.

My next W124 will definitely be an early, pre-Sacco saloon, 260E or 300E, in a period colour, like diamond blue or mint green, with cloth (or, ideally, velour). Unfortunately, when I find it, I will have to get rid of either the 190e, which is simply in too good condition to part with, or both the current S124 and the wife's Citroen C1 (which she's really fond of) will have to go and be replaced with something like a Jazz. 3 cars is the absolute limit.

That's a well-written ad. Looks genuine. Nice west Country weekend, and come back with a car. Win!
Take 2 friends and the other can bring back the 560sel.

I have to direct mine away from my face. Drives me nuts! Rear vents do help but not cure.

How is this individual? Colour?

Isn't the vent problem usually the rubber/foam seal going inside the air diverter? I've had it on a few cars, not sure if it's a practical fix as you'd have to take pretty-much all of the dash out!

My wife cures the slightly too powerful face vents by closing it. The side door one then gets closed. She then thinks it's getting too breezy in the back for the nipper. Meanwhile, she's getting a bit warm, so sticks the aircon on, and turns the temperature right down. By the time I get picked up and jump in the passenger seat, the wind feels like I'm back in Aberdeen, and I can feel my eyeballs start to solidify.

Poor climate control. I don't think German engineers thought of useless / mental women who don't understand what climate control means. I tend to stick the temp back at 18 or 18.5, open all the vents everywhere, and point hers about 2mm left, and she's fine.

Grrr...

I'm sure I read the centre vents on my w124 we only cold as to be directed onto the driver and keep them awake. I will have to dig out the brochure.

Looks solid and sorted pre-facelift W124 estate with excellent spec. Petty it's not in a more traditional colour but all else seems good. Seems he is looking for his recent suspension money back.

You have your hen's teeth, you have your rocking horse poo, and I imagine somewhere between the two you have this - Granada Scorpio 4x4 with 18k from new, (very) short MOT and SORN. I didn't even know that they did these! I'm guessing it's the same drivetrain as a Sierra XR4x4? It looks properly mint (as you would expect with that mileage). I don't think that £1895 is particularly strong given the condition?

Edit: There are 9 4x4's and 2 4X4I's left according to HML yikes rare beast indeed.

I never even realised there was a solar sensor, would explain the extra breeze with the recent weather. Where are the fog sensors situated? I can't find much information on them either.
