Cheers, I am looking to go from 2 cars, 1x work 1x fun to M5 and just use the thing and enjoy!
Exactly what I did and its great having the best of both worlds. Relaxed cruiser in D when I'm working and ballistic missile when I'm not.

I've debadged but customers still look at it twice and guess its something special. Even had one follow me out to have a sit in as its the car he really wants as opposed to the 520d he's got!

I think the dealer deposit on the car configurator was always around £7k for the M5 and £9k for the M3. When you go in and really start haggling though, those numbers can change and the dealer has some discretion give more. I got a bit more off (not much) but also got a very good trade in on my E90 M3, so a good deal all round.

It really is a special car. Only had mine a week and need to do 1200 miles first to really enjoy itdriving
Thanks DT, if you don't mind me asking, how did you structure your deposit? The website assumes 11-13k customer deposit (depending on configurator vs current offers page), did you haggle this down further so you got more cash back from chopping in your M3?

I owned my M3 outright and kept £10k of the equity, so put in an £18k deposit in the end. It's all a bit of a moot point at 0% and all you really need to worry about is the invoice price, the trade in (if you have one) and the final payment at the end. (I suppose this is the same even at 10% APR) You won't get BMW to set a particularly high residual at the end as they don't want to give you free funding for three years AND then end up with a car that's negative equity for them when you walk away! I think I got a final payment of around £27k after three years and 18k miles p.a. The other issue, of course, is that with 0% finance, there's no margin in that finance for the dealer to play with, unlike when they are trying to stiff you for 10% APR!

Cost of ownership is still pretty high even at 0% finance, but what a car! If it had been the usual 8-10% APR on the finance, I wouldn't have bothered and would have just bought it outright.

Thanks DT. Yeh haggling on deposit value seems a bit academic/pedantic but as you say you can't haggle on APR - although we're also in the camp that see no sense in paying interest on a depreciating asset and not someone who'd use the additional cashflow to good value elsewhere anyway, I'll leave it at that without opening the usual finance vs buy can of worms. Singapore grey looks lovely, great stealth spec choice!

Galahad - what spec did you go for? I'm guessing from your pic you went for Sakhir orange interior? Would love to see some pics of that! How are you finding the 19s vs 20s? For these roads if we order one we'll be happy with 19s I think and just have to deal with the cleaning effort. Also can anyone recommend who to talk to at Eastern now that Greg is gone/email address?

I kept it quite basic - M-Multifunction seats, split fold rears (so I can get my bikes in), Pro speaker system (sounds good and I do audio for a living) and the USB phone cradle. The standard spec is very high anyway. Don't think I'd change anything if I was ordering again. Never had the 20s so can't really comment other than to say that a client has 20s on his and parked side by side, I still prefer the 19s and the extra sidewall can only be a good thing with modern roads and the amount of time I spend in London. Quick write up here

Chris Bunch took over my order and has been very good so far. CBunch@easternholdings.co.uk

Here is mine biggrin
Stunning - and exactly the colour combo i'm considering!

Having made the fatal mistake of looking into the cracking lease deals available through Eastern on the new M5 i'm considering replacing my current e60 M5! I'm not sure what is the better deal though lease or the discounted 0% finance deals? I guess if I lease I'd need to sell my current m5 privately as the dealer won't take as part of a lease deal?

Regarding options I'm thinking, piano trim, split-fold rears and privacy. Plus as a a bit of an audiophile I quite fancy the B&O option - anyone got this? I find the L7 in my current M5 a bit pants, so assume the cheaper pro audio speaker upgrade is similarly poor? Anyone who had an e60 M5 able to comment on how they compare? Also, the rear parking camera - is this part of an "auto self-parking" system?

Don't have an F10, but do have a lot experience of B&O itself and could have bought a 2nd hand E60 M5 for the amount I've spent on B&O over the last few years. Although it looks expensive, in B&O terms it's pretty good value and the build quality/materials second to none, pretty sure you won't be disappointed with the sound quality either. The limiting factor would be the quality of the source you play through it and is why I actually wouldn't spec it on an F10 if I ordered one as unless you can rip lossless to iDrive/playing from iOS device in lossless (you'll want a dedicated high capacity itouch probably for all your music) you won't get the best from it. If you think you need to go out of your way to bring lossless recordings into your car to listen (doubt this is the case as you say you are a bit of an audiophile!), you may as well settle for the professional system. Ideally find a car with the system, take a proper cd/lossless album that you know well and listen for yourself, although it sounds a bit silly having to audition a sound system 'in a car'.
Also don't forget you'll also have to test it 'on the move' as obviously if its fighting the V8 for centre stage.....

All my audio is ripped lossless as I use an Aurender S10 as my main source on my home system, and a 160gb ipod classic in the car. As you say I guess I'll have to try and find a dealer with a system to demo. I was very impressed by the B&W system in the XF Jag i demo'd 18 months or so ago,so hopefully as good or better than that.

Then I think you'll be quite happy with the system compared to the cheaper options from BMW but I have no experience of aurender and looking at price I'm guessing they're more in the meridian/linn/burmester end of the audiophile vs lifestyle systems. Depending on where you're located for reference pop into your local B&O dealer and listen to a pair of Beolab 3s which cost more or less the same as the system in the M5 as they use the same acoustic lens tech as the centre tweeter, which fires upwards but the shape of the lens then disperses sound 180 degrees so there's no 'sweet spot' per se.

you'll probably be able to glean more nerdy stuff from there

I've seen a few posts on forums about this and got the sense that whilst it was better than say the professional sound system/harmon kardon/logic 7 or whatever it is called, it wasn't necessarily worth the extra cash. Clearly this is subjective.

I sat in an M6 in Park Lane BMW which had it, but wasn't a great place to demo with only DAB and not wanting to draw attention. It certainly looks good the way the centre speaker rises up.

Take a look at:

For a start point.

Ok, probably a stupid question to ask, but given lack of proper 'performance' car history forgive me, do you all use the top notch high octane stuff from Shell Vpower/BP Ultimate or failing that, whatever's available locally?

Also just had a chance to have a proper read through of your write-up Galahad, great write-up! Hoping to start ringing around for quotes soon...

First choice for me is Vpower - then I'll use either BP or Tesco 99ron. Don't use anything else.

My (Aussie) M5 is having its annual service tomorrow. Unlike my E60 which I was already thinking of replacing after 12 months, the F10 is more satisfying - so long as you aren't expecting an M3 experience. It's a big, wide and luxurious - and very fast. I've got rear TV screens but they aren't very intuitive to use so are seldom turned on - not an option I'd bother with again. The silverstone leather is great but it does need regular cleaning to keep it looking sharp. I had the dealer re-program the Stop/Start to stay off - the restarting is too slow compared to other cars with this "feature". No reliability issues, although I've only driven the car 10,000km so hardly a test. Finally, I still love the MCB colour. smile

That looks lovely mhh! I can see MCB becoming the Le Mans Blue of the F10M as LMB was for the E39 and Interlagos for the E60

Saw a lovely F10 m5 near euston tonight. Is it me or do they always look better I'm the flesh? I thought it was silver stone colour but it stood out so much I'm wondering if it was an individual colour. Looked menacing.

My F10 is built and with a carrier now.

How long does it take to get to the UK and how long does it take for dealer prep??

The wait is killing me!

Wow, congrats..

There sure is going to be more F10 M5's on the road than there were E60 M5''s, due to those cracking deals.
