This sort of sums up the situation rather well:
"Anyone who heard the interview with Nigel Farage on BBC this morning would have thought he has completely lost the plot.
"He (Farage) accused the BBC of hatred when under pressure and panicked during an interview. Nothing he says can be treated with a shred of credibility and his partners in the No campaign should be embarrassed about his behaviour."
A spokesman for the Radical Independence Campaign, who helped organise the demonstration in Edinburgh, said there had been "no anti-English protest".
He added: "For Farage to make such a claim is risible: it is UKIP who are stoking division.
"This was about challenging someone whose party has been spouting racist, sexist and homophobic bile and gone unchallenged for months.
"Everyone who opposes the politics of fear and division should unite against UKIP - whether you live in Scotland or England."
John Martin, president of the Edinburgh College Students' Association, which also took part in the protest, said: "We organised yesterday's protest against Farage out of a belief that UKIP's policies are fundamentally rotten.
"Their headline five-year immigration freeze is not only completely disconnected from reality, but is a policy that neither the people of Scotland nor the rest of the United Kingdom would stomach.
"His regressive and repugnant ideology is not far removed from that of the BNP - just dressed in a better-fitting suit."
Shock horror. I agree with VP. It does sum the situation up rather well. Basically the loony left is spouting complete drivel in an attempt to demonise an up and coming right wing common sense party. Note that they think that having an immigration freeze (right to settle here), would be something that the people of the UK wouldnt stomach, when immigration is one of the top issues in polling."Anyone who heard the interview with Nigel Farage on BBC this morning would have thought he has completely lost the plot.

Also note that an immigration freeze isnt the same as a work permit freeze.
k me, you're not going to vote for the nutcase, are you?!

Anyone got a link to the actual radio interview.
Posted by Viper "Popular" Pict earlier:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-22566180
You'll know you've got the right audio track if you scroll to the end, and if it ends in "[CLICK] Bzzzzzzzzzz", then that's the one.
Granted, the BBC Scotland bloke was doing his best to Farage up, but still a schoolboy error to rise to the bait and then storm off in a huff.

Lets hope their are some sensible people in Scotland who will rush to distance themseleves from the angry rantings of the loony left mob, and feel rather embarrassed that when someone is quietly trying to debate a subject, that the people now representing Scotland in making all the headlines are just shouting " scum scum scum ".
I'm deeply embarrassed at that in Edinburgh yesterday.Walking past and hearing the anti English chants ended up wanting to slap many of the tossers with trout.
A number you can hear that English wasn't even there first language. Found it completely amusing. Then at the same time I saw someone I knew, born with a A grade silver spoon in his mouth but think hes in the working class. Apart from all bills and car are paid for by his parents.

The denial of there being a racist undertone at that protest in Edinburgh yesterday really is laughable!

I'm on a iPad and it says not available for my device. What I'm after is an unedited version as I've stumbled across a few that are spliced apparent uncalled for rants by nf. Seems almost like there's a'tucker' behind the management of information flow tbh.
After looking for the whole thing I can confirm you're right. There are some that are spliced together (well) that mean the interview comes across quite differently.I think you'll find something approaching the full thing if you search Youtube for 'Farage', sort by upload date and then pick one that's around 5 minutes long, rather than 1/1:30 minutes.

Agreed - this must now rank as one of the most bile-filled and nasty threads on PH.
Why? because we have taken him to task after years of nonsense on various threads and the constant clear intimations that we are racists? Not that there aren't others who have made the same overt and covert suggestions throughout this thread, all without foundation I may add.Other than one post that may have gone a little far, there is very little that is not well justified on here, in terms of the recent Scots hypocrisy as evidenced by the Farage incident in Scotland.
t up now! I would challenge anyone to find one genuinely anti-English statement I've ever made on here! Pre-Union, Scotland cost England (term used to cover England and Wales) a considerable proportion of its time and money over the years. The various 'arrangements' between Scotland and France were of major concern, from the 100 Years War and probably before as well.
Pre-Union England cost Scotland a much higher proportion of its GDP, and probably its independence. The irony is that both England and Scotland flowered under the Union. It is difficult to say which benefited most: England because it had secure borders or Scotland because its inventiveness was given full reign under improved government. Whichever, the Union was the best thing that happened to both countries. We went on to rule a considerable proportion of the world, something which benefited the Scots considerably.
One of the benefits for England was the influence of Scots on its politics. This was way over what it should have been given the percentage of population that was Scottish.
It was a true Union. The Scots were accepted into the mainstream of government after a bit of a dodgy initial period. On top of that the great Scottish innovators were able to flower, something they would probably not been able to do if they remained as a major competitor to England. By any measure, except one favoured by the wooly-minded Lord of the Isles type nutter, the Union was one the the great events in world history. Without it the Industrial Revolution would probably have been delayed by some considerable time and some other country would have taken over the responsibility of Pax Britannia.
As half Irish I noticed that there was a significant difference between the way the Irish were received, in London at least, to the Scots. The Irish seemed to be tolerated, whether from north or south, while the Scots were there as of right. That said, I never saw any outright anti-Irish prejudice except for the 'no blacks, no dogs, no Irish' signs near to where I lived. I never, ever saw any such sign saying No Scots. It was unimaginable.
I don't really know what's caused the anti-English resentment of some Scots, especially those who have stayed in Scotland. Directly after the war 'we' were victorious. The only time any English cheered against the Scots was when we were competing on the field. I've sat with Scots when watching a Calcutta Cup match and laughed with them. Once the match was over that is.
I think the resentment against the English shown by some Scots and vice versa is one of the great tragedies for the UK.
Some of the UK's greatest statesmen came from Scotland. And that's not to mention Blair and Brown. Some of the great heroes of this country are Scots. Had it not been for the Union, the UK would have been a backwater, briefly enlightened when the oil was discovered.
England has stopped Scotland lurching to the left and Scotland has done the same for this country but in the other direction. The Union: one of the great success stories.
Yet here we are, squabbling and calling one-another silly names.
Nothing lasts, of course. History teaches us that.
If we want to know what it will be like if the Scots do get independence from the UK and then have to squander it on the EU, just look at what happened in the past: pre-Union to be precise.
It will be a sad day when the Union founders. What makes it sadder is that there is no reason for it. The argument that Westminster rules Scotland as a colony could be changed to Scotland having undue influence over England.
My fear for Scotland - and I have worked with a considerable number of Scots and view many as friends - is that it will become some sort of massive theme park. Some Trump-like mogul will cover it in golf-courses, there will be highland games and such. The Scotland that went out, with England, to conquer the world will be a memory. England will lose out because, one way or another, it will have to spend a considerable amount of effort and money, in securing its border.
Hadrian's Wall was built not as a Torres Vedras defensive line but as a taxation method, controlling the flow in and out of the north of England. That will come back and will be as dangerous as any war.

What is depressing about this thread is that a few pages ago now I posted yet again the GE results as requested by the marsupial plus a link to a well researched piece by an academic studying where the increase in the UKIP support is coming from.
Within that blog were some links to other well researched pieces that posed questions for all the parties on how these parties including UKIP, Labour and Conservative should react to the rise of UKIP particularly when considering the collapse of the BNP.
That the argument, for many pages, has merely continued to circulate with the" you smell, no you smell worse" is truly depressing.
