Not sure if this has been posted yet, but anti lag, 2 step launch and general pops and bangs are my guilty pleasures. Some lovely machines in this video.

Guess it must be something to do with the "generation gap" back when I ran a rolling road service, if I let a car out making all that "pop, bangs and crackle" the owner would have returned to lodge a serious complaint and I would have agreed that the job was indeed sub standard, obviously there are a couple exceptions like race spec wide-overlap radical cams or badly matched turbo's(which were in their infancy and rather primative back then)basically pops and bangs would have been considered a malfunction worthy of complaint and investigation. Maybe someone could enlighten me as to what I should do to give customer satisfaction when they request some decent "pops & bangs"?

Which century was this in? Maybe it's just what customers are after, but even the old rally cars of the 70's could pop and bang like a good 'un. I am guessing pops and bangs became even more popular after turbos became de rigueur in rallying.

Which somewhat fails to explain why the turbo Le Mans cars will be running much more quietly than the normally aspirated cars in a few weeks time. There has been much criticism of their lack of drama.

Whooooooosh-whisper, "and there goes Tom Kristensen in his winning Audi".

Diesel hybrid Le Mans cars has nothing to do with turbocharged rally cars, especially once they got anti-lag technology. I'm not saying turbos pop louder than N/A's or anything else like that. But once they had turbos and anti-lag, they seemed to pop and bang a whole lot more.

Certainly turbocharged rally cars with anti-lag used to make a hell of a racket.

Exactly if you want to hear racing car that pops, bangs and spit flames out the side then watch the new generation btcc cars sound like group b rally cars.

My mx5 pops on up shifts, but this is probably an effect of rapid changes in exhaust pressure at 7000rpm.

my old Westfield used to really crack on the upshifts as it had a clutch switch fitted at 6,500 rpm that allowed full bore flat to the floor upshifts.....awesome.

The Ferrari burbles and rumbles on overrun, but again this is exhaust pressures blowing over the baffles and pipe holes and less to do with unburnt fuel or air leeks, just the clever work by Larini.

Pops and bangs seems to be the "in-thing" for hot hatches these days! RS meganes/clios, astra VXR's and focus RS/ST's all seem to do it and tbh I think it can sound pretty good.

My legnum on the other hand has a 300bhp twin turbo v6 up front with a custom made turbo's back ss exhaust with no cat and there is not a single pop to be had!

You can always tell a lancer is coming your way in the forests because of the amount of bangs on the over run. Always gives us a laugh. The Clios just do very very loud ones on upchanges. An Escort with a BDA (or a millington) screaming sounds better than all of them though.

Used to love the sound of the Remus with sports cat on my old Astra VXR, used to pop and bang just for the fun of it, really do miss having something that sounds that good frown

To actually want to hear pops and bangs seems very chirlish. No need for it on a road car and to decat a car? Fine on a track/race car but a road car, theres no benefit in it at all. Look everyone..look at me...the look at me ive got a loud exhaust syndrome...usually done by little people on an ego trip, or just plain chavs..
£300 for a sports cat or £40 for a decat pipe. No benefit?
