Took a run out to Silverburn last night for no particular reason; car tugged heading city bound on my way there, car tugged heading southbound on the way back. Certainly they are out in force.

What fascinates me about all of this, however, is that you can bet a pound to a penny, they still wont make any effort to crack down on the antics on display right next to their headquarters on Pitt St every weekend night or the 1st and 2nd gear heros up Sauchiehall Street.

Ah the imfamous ASDA roundabout

They should learn how to go round it themselves Traffic car sat in (stupidly designated) Inside ASDA lane on roundabout then chopped my nose off as he cut off at last minute across hatched to head for Bishy at 29.9mph

Now had I done that to them......

The Tradeston area of Glasgow seems to be a popular haunt for them just now in the morning. Plenty of traffic coming off the M8 and M74 and filtering through the streets with plenty of junctions for the police to sit at.

Last week there was a police van with about 7 coppers out in Clyde Place - I thought that they were maybe just training new recruits as opposed to actual pulling for offences.

Also, last week, I was driving up by Torrance and there was bog standard Police Focus Estate parked up a farm road with 2 WPCs standing on the verge with speedgun in hand.
If they sat down the street beside the House of Sher this weekend with every budding Torreto on their way to the Quay to see Fast & Furious 6 they'd get rich pickings.

Its like pulling out on to a quarter mile there half the time.

Remember that this weekend is a crackdown on naughty motorcyclists( Is there any bike related event on this weekend?... )
Now obviously they are just " keeping people safe" but the official pish includes the threat of the all to frequent vehicle asbo that is the new weapon of persecution.
So.be aware, if you do anything that pork deem to be anti social( or might be) they can slap you with one of these, no choice, no defence, no court. Policeman is judge, jury and executioner. They say it is a warning. BUT. Do something again( also, in a policemans opinion). You will be a criminal. You have broken the asbo( which you had no way of contesting) and will be charged with a criminal offence and have your vehicle seized.

Welcome to Nazi Scotland.

And I did also say that bad driving within the limit goes untouched. I assume you are traffic, so next time you are in Robroyston, change the roundabout behind which you skulk. Go to the one at the Asda entrance and start dealing with the piss poor driving on display there. Instead of doing people heading towards the M80.

I am no angel, I openly concede however in built up areas I do watch my speed, as do the vast majority of drivers I see. However the resource and effort put into this truly is out of proportion it looks like persecution and easy target policing. Just the same way as the school bully always picks the easiest targets.

Vastly diminished respect for plod from me, I am afraid - and I am sure I am not alone in this sentiment. Furthermore am friends with a few proper plods, and they too have a bee in the bonnet with traffic.....
Why is it you automatically assume I am a traffic bod, is it because I dare to stick up for them ?. What's a PROPER plod.

I am just presumptious wink

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't do their job for all the tea in China, however they don't do themselves any favours really do they.

Proper plod is police who are out their doing proper policing and catching proper criminals as opposed to bullying easy targets.

Traffic cops are a fraction of the total number of officers, I am quite happy to see them, I don't drive like a tt, I am legally allowed to drive my car, I never use my phone and always wear a seatbelt. Traffic cops are proper police. Doing a proper job as far as I am concerned, you only have to go abroad to countries with little or no policing and see the standard of driving and state of vehicles to see that.

I have nothing to fear from traffic cops, but if I break the law and get caught, it's MY fault and you won't catch me venting my spleen on an Internet forum using words or phrases that would be offensive to the masses.

Oh, and as for proper criminals, a good number of years ago a bad man called Sutcliffe was captured by traffic bods for some minor offence and was locked up for numerous murders. A wee while back traffic bods stopped a car for no insurance and foiled a major terrorist plot.

I don't want to get into a slanging match with you or anyone else but we clearly disagree.

Just out of interest, have you ever heard Adam Buxton's 'help the police' parody of NWA? It's well worth a google/youtube...

could have done with some police about last night when I had to off-road my car in East Kilbride to avoid a head on after an idiot coming the other way drifted into my lane....I'd put money on them texting while driving...

Yes. I got given one for allegedly speeding. There was no measurement of my speed. The officer wasn't even sure which speed limit I had broken, was it the 30 I had just come out of or the NSL I had just entered? I shall never know, nor does he.

Surely to heavens that can be contested??? given that there is a- No idea as to the actual offence and b- Absolutely no fking evidence, how can that be made to stick in any way?? Astonishing and sickening at the same time. When did we become North Korea?

It all kinda backs up the sentiments expressed by myself and a few others on here regarding the traffic pigs.

As far as I know it can be contested but it's pointless, at the time he said I was exceeding the speed limit but all he has to say was my manner of driving was anti social and since I was just leaving a built up area this would pass as a good reason for me to have been given it.

At first he accused me of speeding as I was passing him (He was stationary at the side of the road), I was doing 50mph in an NSL accounting for slightly limited visibility due to falling snow (The road was damp but the snow was not lying). I said to him "Is this not a national speed limit road?", "Yes" he replied.

I defended my self saying I was doing about 50mph, he then accused me of speeding in the 30 zone I had just left to which I also defended my self but he wasn't interested.

The other officer present then said "Lets check his car for mods" and asked for me to open the bonnet which I did without issue. He found nothing, I don't think he had a clue.

The only issue with my car was a headlight bulb being out and I accept that this is my responsibility to check and that I had failed to do so. He verbally told me to get that fixed.

This was the third time I had been stopped in seven days. The second time by this officer. The previous two where 'random' stop checks.

Also these where not traffic policeman.

I have not been stopped since although I have been followed by a traffic car from the main road through the local town in to a culdesac until I pulled in to my mates driveway where the two Policeman in the car then passed staring at me with a grimace.

I am a young male driving a loudish hatchback, perhaps an easy target.

Police out in force agin this morning in Clyde Place Glasgow. One of my colleagues was stopped and asked if they were carrying drivers licence which she was. Details were put into some sort of handheld computer and after a couple of mins she was told everything was fine and to go on her way.

The vehicles are being pulled totally at random, bearing in mind this was rush hour. PC stands out in the middle of the road, stops all the traffic (5 lanes) and then just points to you, you and you - over here.

Must have been at least 7 police there.

Agree with Bluejj's comments

Being stopped at a spot check is an inconvienience but if you have nothing to worry about why get your blood pressure up

Interesting that at two recent visits to Tulliallan and a few behind scenes at Govan got impression they preached "common sense" on both sides but take liberties and suffer

Perceprion is, from this thread, out in the real world it is not been practiced and it is all about targets

Gone are the days of a stern talking to and on your way sir

As an aside has anyone recently had a "on you way and behave warning" or does that not happen now?

Well PI above mentions that he had a faulty light bulb but was told to get it fixed - that sounds like a get on your way?

My brother was once stopped for a broken exhaust, literally 20 yards from the garage where he was getting it fixed and had a prior appt booked which could be verified. Police issued him with a notice that basically meant he had to get his car fully MOT'd again and produce the MOT to his nearest station.
