Hi there

I'm thinking of getting a tablet, that needs to have 3G and am not thinking of a IPad due to the cost and the fact that I like Android OS.

Does anyone have any ideas as to which tablet is the best value? Also whilst asking is there anyway to get a PAYG 3G sim?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Gingerbread Man

Just thinking through this a bit more....I don't suppose I could 'tether' my Galaxy S2 to a tablet so I could do away with the need for 3G connectivity? I would hate to have to pay for two sims and therefore having two contracts running.

Is this possible?

Apologies for not making myself clearer in my first post.....

I've got a 3G Nexus 7 and it's great. 3gb data for a tenner (expires after 3 months), then just buy another sim from 3.

I wish I'd have tested a nexus 7 out before I bought mine.
I have an iPhone 5 on 3 but am not allowed to tether on my plan, I bought a 32gb 3g nexus so if needs be I could add a sim card. Guess what, the iPhone tethers perfectly to it! Unlike my laptop. frown

I'm usually an apple fan and dislike android os. Since I've had the Nexus the iPhone has been relegated to calls, texts and tethering. I'd recommend one to anyone.

I've just checked out the 3 website and I can't find that deal anymore...it's £20 for the three months now...still not too bad though...

Thanks

I got the Asus Fonepad yesterday - Essentially a Nexus 7 but can also make calls with it (nexus 3g doesn't have phone). Pretty damned good actually.

One issue I have is not being able to pair my Creatiive WP250 headset with it - Had it less than 24 hours so sure I will sort that

^ This.

If you want to just tether to your s2, then the new HP Slate 7 at £120 would be a good shout too.

If you want to tether then a non 3G nexus would be my choice, while its nice the slate has an SD slot which is missing from the nexus the rest of it sounds like utter junk from the reviews I've seen.

For example http://www.androidcentral.com/hp-slate-7-review

So no GPS, really crappy screen that doesn't even display at the correct aspect ratio. Those 2 things alone would put me right off.

If you want a good sim deal try Ovivo.

For free you get 500mb per month. £5 a month gives you 1GB.

I use the free phone sim for the car phone, £15 upfront for the sim card, 150 mins, 200 texts and 500mb data. The £15 is added you your account as credit so any calls, messages or data outside your allowance come out of that.

Fantastic deal, as long as you make or receive a text/call every 60 days it won't get cancelled.

I think they make money with advertising (I don't get this with the car phone) but even the odd advert can't put you off this deal!

Thanks all, I went for a the 3G Nexus 7 with T Mobile £7.50 for 1GB of data on a rolling 30 day contract....

I was already to hit purchase on Amazon but noticed the price was £280 as opposed to £239 from Google....then decided to walk down to John Lewis where it was the same price and a two year guarentee....

I'm quite shocked at Amazon's pricing policy as normally I've found them to be the cheapest but caveat emptor....

Thanks for all your help!

There may or may not be some small conflict of interest on Amazons part, especially as the Kindles come with the Amazon app store and other Amazon services instead of the Google Play equivalents.

Tbh I just bought one of those things that punches it into a smaller sim. Looks like a stapler! Couple of quid from Amazon.
