When I first saw that, me and Mrsmr2 were taking Latin dance classes... The torture scene with the car radio?... Same music - couldn't keep a straight face the next lesson!

Jack Reacher and the Hobbit recently, both on Blu-ray.
Really liked the Hobbit, though it is a tad meandering in places. Little one enjoyed it too, kept her quiet despite how long it is. Liked it enough to plan on seeing no.2 on the big screen.
Reacher? Well it's certainly divided opinions, but I'd give it a solid 7/10. Not read any of the books, so didn't have any preconceived thoughts (thumbed through one of the novels in a supermarket - are they all written exclusively "first person"? Can't get along with that style at all I'm afraid), but I like Cruise's stuff nine times out of ten. Plot was a little thin, but the action was good (bathroom scene a bit daft), and Ms Pike gorgeous
Question: are mint condition Camaros and Chevelles really so commonplace that they're so easily within reach of autopart store workers/low level hoods, or is that just Hollywood?

Just finished watching the John Woo historical action (I'd guess you'd call it) film Red Cliff, every bit as good as the second Lord of the Rings film, fantastic action sequences (set in 280 AD Japan) and kept me hooked throughout. You need to pay attention to who's who as they all wear the same uniforms, but it gets a solid 8/10 from me.
Interesting, I had that one on record so might save it for the weekend. The are both as good as each other, well worth watching

Star Trek - Into Darkness: I'm biased, I've always liked the Enterprise based Star Treks and this latest film is up there with the best in terms of effects if not in plot. It's still dealing with the early years of the team but they all seem to gel very nicely and Benedict Cumberbatch played a very good villain. There were lots of nods back to the earlier films (one especially but I don't want to spoil anything). I hope they continue to make many more. 8/10
Just back from seeing it in 3D. The above seems to sum it up pretty well and really enjoyed it. Didn't even get a numb ass so it must have been good. The Great Gatsby - A mysterious new millionaire appears on the opposite side of a Long Island bay upsetting some of the old money set. I've not read the book so went in open minded to the 3D version of this. Big, brash and over the top is how I'd sum up the film which is probably how it's meant to be to reflect Gatsby's parties. 6/10
Fast & Furious 6
Always been a guilty pleasure for me this franchise, the first two films were naff but enjoyable with an almost 'straight to DVD' vibe about them, I did enjoy them as the characters were entertaining and the endless gearboxes amused. Part 3 was rubbish which almost put me off watching part 4.
However from 4 onwards the story was expanded and the different characters roles to create an automotive heist series, each one more OTT than before.
Due to the popularity of 4 & 5 they've thrown everything at 6, it's ridiculous from start to finish but the great characters and banter between them make for one of the best popcorn films I've seen, normally I hate these sorts of OTT films but as the enjoyable characters have had time to develop it's all very entertaining, looking forward to part 7 next year.

Les Miserable.
didn;t know the story at all before viewing and I was expecting the oscar winning actress to dominate the film, but she's only in it for half an hour.....
Jackman, Redmayne superb and the production outstanding - but for me it missed the mark as it seemed to elevate relatively minor characters at the expense of learning more about some of the central characters.
Started very well indeed and kinda frittered away for me. 6/10.

Argo - Quite tense and the attention to detail seemed pretty good, but the ending was a bit silly, I thought.
Army truck outrunning a 747 down the runway? Why didn't they just call the control tower and see "Tell it not to take off" - I sensed a bit of 'artistic licence' in the ending, which slightly spoilt it for me.
7/10.

The Raid - A police special forces team is sent into a tower block to take down a crime boss. Very little plot, lots of very repetitive action. A few things annoyed me, the way the weapons were always matched up i.e gun v gun, knife v knife, fist v fist. Everyone is brilliant at martial arts. It has it's moments but I don't really see where all the love has come from for this one. If this had Jason Statham in it it would have been ripped to pieces. 4/10
The Philadelphia Experiment - Old school time travel film. The effects have not aged very well but it's reasonably entertaining. I think I want to see the Final Countdown next. The king of the briefly popular time traveling US warship genre. 6/10

I agree. Did you not also see artistic license in that every single person with brown skin was a baddie? There are, it seems, no ordinary citizens in Iran and only devout extremists.Army truck outrunning a 747 down the runway?
