2nd - SERRL Cranbrook Road Race 3/4
2nd - Hog Hill Summer Series 3/4

So now have my 2nd Cat and a summer of getting destroyed in E12's at Hog Hill and Cyclopark (there doesn't seem to be too many 2/3 SERRL races)

I enjoy racing at Hog Hill as its a place I can take on the bigger guys with the big FTP's as my short term stuff is pretty good and I'm pretty light so the hill works to my advantage especially in a sprint finish.Rocksteadyeddie said:
If you're a little guy won't you just get mullered by the big guys in crits
I'm not that little 66-67kg and have a good 5sec to 1min and have always done ok in 3/4 crits as they tend to be just a bunch of 20sec, 1 min, 5 min efforts I'm going to really struggle in E12 stuff where they are more constant and will be getting spat out the back for some time I think.

I have started racing this year, bought my first road bike a year and half ago, so thought I would try racing.
Started at Mallory Park 4th cat only, came 11th of 64 riders which I was pleased with. 2nd race at Mallory felt really good but gutted to puncture and split my tyre open with 10 laps to go. Then decided to go to MK Bowl for their 4th cat only races and managed to win, so up to 3rd cat. haven't raced a 3/4 yet.
So my results so far:
11th - Mallory - 4th Only
DNF - Mallory - 4th Only
1st - MK Bowl - 4th Only

Just back from the Ras. Ireland's highest profile stage race. UCI 2.2.
Didn't get a result, but didn't expect to as there were over 100 pros on the start line. Unfortunately I picked up a chest infection last week and couldn't breath properly.
So on Sunday when the first 2 hours were at 30mph to say that I was suffering would be an understatement.
Avg speed of winner on Sunday was over 29mph for nearly 90miles.
I finished in a group a good bit back.
Monday I lasted 60 miles of the 100 before getting dropped, then we got caught at a railway crossing for 8 minutes so finished a good bit down. Avg speed for winner was >28mph for 100 miles.
Tuesday had a cat 2 climb at 3 miles, I couldn't breath at all on the climb and went over the top 90 seconds behind the lead bunch. Chased hard for 2 hours but couldn't get back on. The last hour was into a headwind and we lost a lot of time on the winner. After the stage my chest got really bad and I started coughing up blood. The race doc couldn't prescribe anything because they're all on the banned substance list.
So unfortunately Wednesday morning I was in such bad condition I couldn't start. Breathing was so bad I was getting out of breath talking.
All in all it was a fantastic experience. I really didn't think it was possible to ride that fast. We were doing over 40mph on the first day at one point, I was hanging on for dear life and I could see guys attacking off the front. The difference between the pros and armatures is unreal.
Even their confidence and bike handling skills are a different level. Each day I was dropped because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sitting to far back and having to dig too deep when lads let wheels go.
The race doesn't finish until Sunday, and even though I only did 3 of 8 stages I firmly believe if I hadn't had the chest infection I would make it to the finish.
I'll be back next year with better training and more experience.
All in all it was a fantastic experience and that is enough of a result for me.

So I got my head around racing again and it's been a fun week.
Thruxton 3/4 7th. Big improvement from last year felt ok throughout and despite not having much left at the end and losing a spot on the line was well pleased.
Dunsfold Masters. Having raced the day before it was always a gamble going there but I had the opportunity so why not. Took about 20 mins get going (me not the race) and there were some very aggressive digs. I took my share of the pace throughout and thoroughly enjoyed it. Final lap I screwed up and didn't sprint despite being perfectly placed to do so, brain fade. Strange one that.
Looking forward to the next few races. It's still a learning curve as I am yet to get used to the new pace. What I found really tough last year isn't hurting me right now, considering going with the breaks and trying to stay away

I find the lack of 4th cat only races quite surprising. I would have assumed that BC now have more people with a cat 4 licence than ever befopre but throwing newbie cat 4s in with cat 3s who are pushing for cat 2 seems daft and doesnt do anyone any favours, the "go race" stuff isnt really an accurate representation of road racing so there is a huge mix in terms of ability at the start of a 3/4 race with people like me willing to give it a go against some very talented riders and to be honest, neither of us want the other in our races!!!
