Swing arm has now had the wrapping treatment.I just did the sides inside and out. The ends and the cast front have just been sprayed to match.
Apparently my shock is now done! Only taken 18 months and costing about £400 more than I thought. I bloody hope there will be room for negotiation on the price!!
I have also found a brand new cylinder head in Finland that I am currently trying to get a price for. "make me an offer he said" I have given him my top offer so we will see if he takes it or not. I know Peter Day has one but it needs some work so a new one would be perfect.
Got an almost perfect std end can off ebay, would have been a great price if my wife wasnt bidding against me upstairs, bless her, she knew I wanted it and was going to surprise me.

fantastic perseverance in the face of adversity ! i really hope things go better for the build soon.second best looking yamaha ever to the r7 ,in itself the best looking il4 ever imo if not possibly the best ever looking bike of all,and thats from a suzuki man.Apparently my shock is now done! Thanks for the comments, To be fair I am not convinced the OW is a particularly pretty bike, I kind of got this one by accident, it was at the right price at the right time, I never really lusted after one back in the day, I was always an RC30 man until some b
d stole it (I am not usualy this unlucky, just in case you are forming an opinion here!)
I have to agree about the R7 though, I would sell this one like a shot if I thought I could get one.
I did see the PS OW article. I have mixed feelings. The swing arm and dry clutch are the stuff of my dreams but I think I could have built a better bike(s) for £40,0000. I would at least have made sure the FZR-R stickers were on the correct sides of the fairing! Jelous? me? Oh yes.

That brushed aluminium wrap is a genius idea! Where did you find that? That has all manner of possible applications for older bikes with ally components!
Got the wrap from a friend of a friend who wraps cars for a living but the labeling on the box says www.hexisgroup.com. It seems to be the best way to get close to the original brushed finish on older parts. Having spoken to several restorers it would seem nobody can replicate the original brushed finish on Jap frames and swing arms from the 80s and 90s.petesea said:

Hi
Has anyone got an over racing project exhaust, tsukigi or a techserfu for an ow01 they don't want and if so how much please.
Thanks
Mike
I have an Over can. Have a look at some of my pics earlier on in this thread, you will need to budget for a tube or two of solvol though.Has anyone got an over racing project exhaust, tsukigi or a techserfu for an ow01 they don't want and if so how much please.
Thanks
Mike
Progress!
Finaly won over someone in America who had a head for sale to send it to UK. They didnt want to at first but I think my constant pestering e mails finaly wore them down.
Head has been skimmed by .2mm and has a realy nice porting job done to it. Should be worth a couple of extra BHP.
I should have taken some pics but I was too keen to fit and shim the valves and get it on the bike.
The Haynes manual lied, it said the head would go on with the engine in the frame, there was no way I could do it but not too much work to drop engine forwards a bit.
Just in case anyone else ever removes valves from a Yam 5 valve head the centre inlet valves are about 1 mm shorter than the others. This caused an hour or so of bad language as I could not get any valve clearance even with the smallest shim available on the centre inlet valves. I was thinking the seats had been cut back into the head and the head was no use till the penny dropped.
I had all the valves arranged in order on the end of my bench but after 18 months they must have got mixed up.
